Job Description

We are seeking a talented Controls Engineer to design and implement electrical controls systems for automated material handling equipment. This project and application-based role involves developing specifications, reviewing electrical drawings, and creating PLC / PAC logic. You will be involved from the concept phase through design, programming, testing, and onsite support, serving as the primary technical contact and interacting directly with clients.

Responsibilities

• Understand and utilize department process workflow steps to complete project work.
• Meet with clients and internal project teams to define applications and produce operating documents.
• Lead training for co-op personnel and junior engineers by delegating project tasks.
• Lead small to medium-sized projects independently with minimal supervision.
• Collaborate with project leads on large projects to execute design per requirements.
• Define and maintain project schedules, ensuring milestones are met.
• Forecast resources, materials, and expenses, meeting financial budgets.
• Generate project-specific documentation using standard company formats.
• Develop application programs to control automated equipment based on system design and operational requirements.
• Create standard PLC programs for real-time control and data collection.
• Utilize automation programming software for PLC programs interfacing with devices like network I / O and camera systems.
• Customize standard products to meet project requirements.
• Design Human Machine Interface (HMI) screens.
• Conduct preliminary in-house testing and on-site testing at client facilities.
• Interact with mechanical and electrical engineering during design reviews.
• Collaborate with engineers to integrate project solutions.
• Perform on-site technical checkout and systems commissioning at client sites.
• Update documentation to 'as-built' status upon project completion.

Essential Skills

Work Environment

This position is fully remote with a 50% travel requirement. You will travel to client sites for programming, commissioning, and start-up activities. When not traveling, work will be conducted from home.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00 / hr.
