Position Overview :
The Medical Assistant manages patient flow throughout the clinic and assists providers in the management and treatment of patients. Patients come from a variety of backgrounds and age groups, including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The role focuses on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks as outlined in the Medical Assistant scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are defined by supervising nurses and providers, in alignment with state medical and nursing boards.
The Medical Assistant works under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to meet the goals of patients, the shift, the department, and the organization.
Effective communication with the healthcare team regarding progress, concerns, or issues that arise is an essential aspect of this role.
Key Responsibilities :
Clinical Care :
- Perform clinical and clerical tasks to manage patient flow.
- Conduct standard rooming processes.
- Administer immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by providers.
- Collect and process laboratory specimens; perform basic clinic lab tests.
- Provide telephone support and facilitate communication between patients and providers.
- Assist with prescription refills.
- Perform x-ray duties (if certified).
- Perform phlebotomy duties.
Clinic Support :
Provide front desk and check-in support.Order and stock supplies.Assist with prior authorizations.Accept other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.Compliance :
Adhere to corporate compliance standards and code of conduct.Protect patient and team member privacy, accessing only information required for job duties.Report concerns or violations to supervisors or compliance officers.Comply with all legal, regulatory, accrediting, and procedural requirements.Qualifications : Education :
High school graduate or equivalent (GED) – Required.Graduate of an ABHES or CAAHEP accredited Medical Assistant program – Required.Experience :
Previous clinical experience – Required.Passed x-ray operator’s examination, or willingness to complete exam as needed.Skills & Abilities :
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks efficiently.Proficient in computer software applications.Travel using personal vehicle may be required (depending on clinic type).Certification :
