Job Overview
Under the direction of the Plant Manager, the Production Supervisor / 2nd Shift ensures the production of company products at the highest quality at the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards and customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
A Day In The Life
Prioritize, schedule, and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise the systems integration and test functions to ensure the production of products at the highest quality at the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards, and customer specification and delivery requirements, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Plan production schedules, review component parts, and sub-assembly availability against build schedule.
Review parts shortages with purchasing and adjust schedules as necessary.
Ensure the training of new and present employees in the processes and methods required to achieve the company’s standards for safety, quality, quantity, and productivity.
Participate in planning meetings, recommending space, personnel, and equipment requirements.
Ensure adherence to operating procedures and requirements.
Drive continuous improvement through actively engaging employees in areas of waste identification and elimination, including use of tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Standard work, 5S+, TPM etc.
Continually evaluate processes and methods, recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance, utilization of people, and quality of product.
Act as a technical resource to address and resolve inquiries and problems; analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving work problems utilizing systematic problem solving tools (A3, 8D, 5 Why etc.)
Ensure the completion of all required production paperwork, records, documentation, such as time cards, quality records, etc.
Approve vacation schedules
Ensure compliance with departmental housekeeping standards and all safety and work rules and regulations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, purchase orders, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write reports, procedure manuals, and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of specifications and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
What will help you thrive in this role?
Bachelor’s degree and one to two years related experience; Proven manufacturing / supervisory background to be considered in lieu of degree
Two years of college and three to five years of progressively responsible related experience
Four years of high school and seven to ten years of progressively responsible related experience
Combination of education and experience.
