By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure.

  • This is a remote position based in any major metropolitan market in the Eastern US
  • POSITION SUMMARY :
  • Reporting to the Senior Director, the National Director, Walk to Defeat ALS - East co-leads the strategic vision, development, and execution of the Association’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising campaign.
  • In partnership with the National Director, Walk to Defeat ALS - West, this role drives innovation, integration, and national alignment to elevate fundraising performance and program impact across the organization.
  • The Director will also play a critical role in supporting field teams through organizational change, particularly in unstaffed markets, by guiding development operations and ensuring effective local implementation of national strategies to sustain the long-term success of the Walk program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Strategy & Vision Co-lead the strategic vision for the Walk to Defeat ALS, aligning goals across departments and stakeholders.
  • Translate program vision into actionable business, operational, and technology decisions in partnership with senior leadership.
  • Stay current on emerging trends and technologies to inform strategy and foster growth.
  • Program Oversight & Development Develop and manage national product roadmaps, timelines, and budgets to support scalable execution and training.
  • Support development teams during unstaffed transitions, ensuring Walk programs remain financially on track and aligned with strategic goals.
  • Identify and address regional challenges with tailored strategies, including revenue recovery.
  • Cross-Functional & Change Management Collaboration Partner with Marketing & Communications to align national messaging and promotional tools.
  • Ensure integration of peer-to-peer fundraising with other development, marketing, mission, and care initiatives.
  • Support adoption of new systems and processes, while providing guidance to staff to ease concerns and overcome resistance.
  • Consistently communicate challenges, successes, and feedback from the field to leadership, offering solutions where needed.
  • Leadership & Staff Development Lead, mentor, and develop team members and field staff through training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Provide ongoing communication and guidance to participants, sponsors, volunteers, and vendors as necessary.
  • Foster collaboration between home office and territory teams to strengthen staff and volunteer engagement.
  • Serve as a visible, strategic leader and ambassador for the Walk program.
  • Performance & Accountability Define and track key performance metrics to measure effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
  • Analyze program data and prepare reports to inform strategic decisions.
  • Ensure expense budgets are maintained, and ROI is maximized.
  • QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and / or commensurate experience. 7-10 years of progressive national peer-to-peer fundraising and event management experience, preferably in a VHA / health-related nonprofit.
  • Experience in large-scale peer-to-peer events is required.
  • Demonstrated success training volunteers, coordinators, and staff in peer-to-pee fundraising.
  • Strong ability to establish trust and maintain relationships with staff, volunteers, donors, and partners.
  • Proven experience managing remote teams and driving adoption of new processes and technologies.
  • Skilled in Luminate TeamRaiser, Salesforce, Classy, Microsoft Office, and project management software.
  • High capacity to assess challenges, implement solutions, and adapt strategy in fast-paced, evolving environments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%.
  • PAY TRANSPARENCY :

  • The ALS Association’s pay range for this position is $112,476 - $119,892 annually.
  • The ALS Association has compensation ranges for various work locations throughout the United States, allowing us to compensate employees competitively and consistently in diverse geographic markets.
  • The above-listed listed range shows prospective compensation for this role; the appropriate range will be established by what is eventually determined to be the candidate's primary work location.
  • Various factors, including the complexity and significance of the role, job duties / requirements, relevant experience and abilities, and primary work location, determine individual compensation.
  • Compensation ranges are evaluated and typically adjusted on a regular basis.
  • Offers are made within the compensation range that is in effect at the time of the job offer.
  • The Association may, at its discretion, offer merit-based increases tied to individual performance.
  • The benefits listed may differ depending on employment status with the Association.
