Supply Development Manager

The Supply Development Manager is a key role that oversees relationships with the dairies that supply colostrum and supports the overall colostrum sourcing strategy of the cooperative. This role provides recommendations to the cooperative leadership. This position is predominantly an "in-field" role, requiring significant routine travel to various geographies where our supply is currently sourced and major dairy areas where we aim to develop future supply.
The ideal candidate will combine a deep understanding of dairy operations with a proven ability to build programs from the ground up. This position will provide on-farm technical support to help dairy producers maintain and improve the quality of colostrum. This role will also support the supply chain team, assisting with the optimization of dairy collection operations and logistics. Key responsibilities include :
- Serve as the primary point of contact for existing suppliers, addressing issues or concerns and facilitating communication between the cooperative and supplying dairies.
- Build and manage strong working relationships with the management teams at supplying dairies to ensure effective communication on all facets of the supply, including projected quantities, quality, and payment.
- Partner closely with the supply chain team and dairy management to optimize logistics.
- Support and advise supplying dairies on colostrum collection strategies, identifying opportunities to improve processes for the cows, the dairy, and the cooperative.
- Develop and implement on-farm testing protocols to ensure colostrum quality and compliance with industry standards.
- Establish and enforce colostrum handling procedures to maintain the highest levels of product integrity from farm to processing.
- Develop professional working relationships with potential future supplying dairies and sign them up to supplier contracts to grow the total volume of colostrum supply to meet the demand needs of the drying operation.
- Develop and enforce quality policies for farms, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Partner closely with the processing plant operations to support in-plant testing protocols.
- Use independent judgment to analyze data and make recommendations for changes to support significant business initiatives.
- Prepare and present operational, quality, and supply forecast updates in written and verbal formats to senior leadership.
- Monitor and analyze the colostrum supply to ensure an adequate supply and the highest quality of that supply.
- Partner with senior management to assess current processes and identify process improvement opportunities.
Required education and experience include :
Bachelor's degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.Experience with dairy farm production systems.Seasoned dairy industry participant who has knowledge of other marketing entities and experience with cooperative businesses.Knowledge of colostrum collection and dairy farming practices is a plus.Experience implementing and managing quality assurance programs related to dairy supply.Understanding of quality risk management and best practices for dairy, including farm testing procedures and compliance with food safety regulations.Competencies and characteristics required include :

This role requires a proactive individual who is comfortable working in the field and traveling frequently. The ideal candidate will have ability to travel routinely and work on-site with various dairies.Must successfully complete a background check.Must have proof of legal authorization to work in the USA.Physical requirements include :

The noise level in the work environment in the office is usually moderate but it can vary greatly depending on the external environment.
