Your Role
As an Occupational Therapist (OT), you will play a vital role in helping students thrive in their educational environment. You will provide services tailored to each student's unique needs, ensuring they can fully participate in their special education programs. Your expertise will help students improve their skills in :
- Classroom lessons and activities
- Self-help skills
- Prevocational and vocational activities
- Play and leisure
- Social skills
Your work will directly contribute to enhancing student participation in the general education curriculum and extracurricular activities.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will be accountable for :
Improving manipulative skills for self-care and academic tasks.Enhancing school transitions and participation through environmental accommodations.Maintaining functional postures to boost comfort and engagement.Increasing functional use of hands and visual regard through stable positioning.Ensuring independence in feeding for safety and nourishment.Facilitating a safe school environment to minimize injury risks.Improving coordination for small muscle tasks.Assessing and modifying the environment for better mobility.Utilizing adapted equipment to enhance extremity function.Addressing motor planning and behavior issues through sensorimotor activities.Promoting staff competency in body mechanics and classroom adaptations.Facilitating access to assistive technology for student independence.Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need :
Education
A Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.National Board Certification for Occupational Therapy.A current and active Illinois license to practice, renewed every two years with 24 hours of continuing education.Experience
Experience in evaluating students through observation, therapeutic handling, and collaboration with parents and school teams is essential.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to develop and implement individualized OT intervention strategies.Strong collaboration skills with students, school teams, parents, and community agencies.Proficiency in documenting services and evaluating student progress.Commitment to professional growth and ethical standards of practice.Experience in supervising occupational therapy assistants in accordance with Illinois regulations.Why Join Us?
