The Infrastructure Network Engineering team is responsible for the out of band (OOB) and disaster recovery networks that underpin the Meta production IP network.
The Infrastructure networks are used : for commissioning of network devices; to provide an out-of-band (OOB) management plane, and; for purposes of disaster recovery and exist in our data center regions, backbone locations, optical locations and peering points of presence.
We operate a fully independent global IP network with an emphasis on high availability and speed of deployment.
As a principal member of our Network Infrastructure Engineering team, you will be responsible for developing IP connectivity solutions and network designs in close collaboration with partner teams.
This includes designing network topologies, selecting industry technologies and protocols, liaising with vendors on feature or product development, and choosing network products and platforms that align with our product needs.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, deployment, management, and maintenance of critical, multi-vendor, multi-protocol networks across all locations, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.
- Spearhead the design and deployment of new network and tooling architectures, setting the direction for future network infrastructure.
- Use data analysis techniques to diagnose and resolve network issues, drive continuous improvement of networks, and develop proactive fault detection methodologies.
- Develop and drive the team's technical roadmap, coordinating the work of other engineers on the team and across cross-functional boundaries.
- Debug and resolve the most challenging problems in live environments and act as the primary point of escalation for service incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experienceOver 8 years of relevant work experience in Network EngineeringExpertise in mitigating IP network hardware and topology failures, with prior experience in designing, deploying and troubleshooting large scale network infrastructureIn-depth protocol experience with multiple of the following : BGP, OSPF, ISIS, with a thorough understanding of typical configurations, advanced routing policies and performance optimizationsProficiency in network device configuration across multiple vendors such as Juniper, Cisco, Arista, Brocade, Nokia, Linux, with experience in hardware evaluation and vendor selectionMore than 2 years of development experience in higher-level languages such as Python, C++, Go, etc., with an emphasis on network automation and tool developmentDemonstrated leadership and project management experience, with the ability to lead a team, mentor less experienced engineers, and interface effectively with other departmentsPreferred Qualifications
Extensive field experience with network deployments, including direct experience managing the complexities and challenges of large-scale rolloutsIn-depth knowledge of TCP / IP and IPv6, including detailed understanding of performance tuning, security considerations and recent developments in the protocolPractical experience with Netconf / XML network device configuration management, gNMI streaming telemetry, and knowledge of best practices for network element management at scaleDemonstrated examples of clear and concise communication skills, including the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiencesPrior experience working on both datacenter and backbone networksFamiliarity with GPON (or XGS-PON, EPON, etc) and VPN technologiesMeta is proud to be an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
