Reporting to the Engineering and Construction Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for serving as the project manager and / or project lead for mechanical engineering assignments in support of FirstLight's hydroelectric generating station equipment and facilities. Projects may be located at FirstLight operating sites nationwide.
Pay : $115,000–$120,000 annually, plus competitive bonus
Key Responsibilities
Provide leadership for assigned CAPEX and major maintenance projectsPerform engineering design and analysis for modifications to existing plant equipment and for new plant equipmentRespond to engineering / technical requests from other departmentsRecommend corrective actions and improvements based on operation, maintenance, and failure dataPrepare and / or review technical studies and reportsPrepare cost-benefit analyses for proposed engineering assignmentsPrepare job specifications, RFPs, and evaluate contractor / consultant proposals and equipment purchasesCoordinate personnel, develop schedules, and oversee work plans for engineering assignmentsProvide oversight of contractors and consultants on assigned projectsDevelop understanding of generating station operation and maintenance principles to inspect and maintain equipmentPerform inspections and refine inspection protocols for maintenance planningSupport FERC civil, environmental, public safety, and operational requirementsEnsure assignments meet quality standards, regulatory requirements, timelines, and budgetsPerform other duties as assigned and comply with FirstLight policiesJob Qualifications / Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field3+ years' experience in the power generation or related industryExperience in power plant systems, component design, project management, and FERC Dam Safety (preferred)Registered Professional Engineer designation (preferred)High standard of technical competenceWorking knowledge of federal / state regulatory criteria and industry codes and standardsAbility to analyze information, determine facts, and make timely, cost-effective decisionsStrong initiative and ability to work with minimal supervisionProven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projectsClear and concise communication skillsExperience collaborating across organizational levels and with industry / government counterpartsExperience providing guidance in relevant technical areasProficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and related softwarePhysical Requirements
