Clinical Laboratory Supervisor
Provides day-to-day supervision to include administrative technical and personnel duties as well as hiring counseling and disciplinary actions of the staff. Develop and monitor financial budgets as well as quality assurance monitors to assess section performance and ensure established targets are achieved. Assists in leading the team and function as a resource to the system lab leadership team. Assess section performance and ensure established targets are achieved. Promotes and contributes to expertise in the clinical laboratory by providing expert-level guidance on Chemistry technical issues. Develop procedures and methods in accordance with accreditation requirements. Responsible for ensuring that staff system-wide complies with policies and procedures. Responsible for coordinating the day to day operations of the section the ongoing monitor of maintenance QC and QA activities in accordance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements. Interfaces with other sites and departments in addressing questions of their technical area from providers and other customers. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Requirements :
Bachelors degree including courses in biological science chemistry and mathematics and 3 years of full-time experience in the clinical laboratory. Experience in a supervisory role preferred. Additional education / experience may be required depending on specific department. Current NCA or ASCP laboratory certification (CT HT MLT MT / MLS) depending on specific department.
Job Description : Must be able to operate and perform basic computer programs associated with documentation and record keeping in the department. Must demonstrate a degree of independent judgment and critical thinking consulting with the manager when appropriate. Must be able to move from task to task maintaining quality and efficiency. Communicates and shares information with providers and team members both verbally and written. Demonstrates teaching coaching and mentoring skills. Work which produces high levels of mental / visual fatigue e.g. interactive and repetitive or small detailed work requiring alertness and concentration for sustained periods of time the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT between 40 and 70 percent of the time. The job produces some physical demands. Typical of jobs that include regular walking standing stooping bending sitting and some lifting of light weight objects. Duties dependent on specific department. Oversees and is accountable for supervising all system-wide clinical and technical functions related to specialty. Schedules section personnel to ensure processes are performed and test results are available to meet the clinical needs of healthcare providers. Working in conjunction with Purchasing Central Distribution and vendors assists in maintaining adequate supplies and inventory for section. Assists the manager with work review and consults with pathologists as required. Uses critical thinking to resolve technical problems in procedures and instrumentation. Acts as a resource for healthcare providers on matters relating to department testing methodology and quality concerns. Hires and conducts personnel performance evaluations. Ensures department staff adhere to the laboratorys chemical and biohazard safety policies and procedures. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify appropriate technical resource prior to reporting patient test results. Dependent on job duties a valid Michigan drivers license and insurability through Bronsons carrier may be required.
