Reports To : Title Production Manager

Job Purpose :

An Abstractor goes through the archives of a property and analyzes any transaction, land map, mortgage, inheritance that changed, the owner of the house, or legal dispute to verify whether the seller of the property has the right to sell that property.

Overall, this role performs search and exam for abstract products to include but not limited to, new abstracts, abstract continuations, finals, and certified reports.

Requirements : Responsibilities :

• Complete search and exam for abstract products
• Review completed abstract products for accuracy
• Retrieve documents from archives and convert to a scanned image
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Iowa Land Records, recording practices
• May travel to local county courthouses as needed to retrieve or verify documents
• Ensure timely and accurate delivery of abstracts to meet client and transaction deadlines
• Answer Client questions as appropriate
• Assist with other tasks / projects as needed

Qualifications :

Prior experience in abstracting, title searching, or real estate is preferred

Familiarity with Iowa legal descriptions and land record systems preferred but not required

High Level of accuracy and attention to detail

Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office

Excellent organizational and time management skills

Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
