Vannin Chief of Staff has been retained by the founding shareholder of a family-owned, multi-generational investment platform.
Our client is seeking a highly organized, adaptable, analytical, and diplomatic Chief of Staff to provide executive-level support to the Founding Shareholder of a diverse portfolio of businesses. This role will drive strategic alignment and optimize people and financial resources across investments.
The ideal candidate will act as the strategic right hand to the Founding Shareholder, ensuring his time and focus are spent on the highest-value initiatives. The role requires exceptional business judgment, discretion, and the ability to work confidently with a fast-paced, strong-willed leader while collaborating effectively with affiliated company leaders to enhance profitability.
This will be a full-time, exempt position open to candidates based in Jackson, Denver, Salt Lake City, or Scottsdale, with a strong preference for Jackson, WY and the expectation of frequent travel there.
Responsibilities
Executive Support & Organization
- Serve as the Founding Shareholder’s gatekeeper and thought partner, ensuring alignment with long-term priorities.
- Read, analyze, and summarize board documents, reports, contracts, and other critical materials, providing clear, actionable insights.
- Draft internal and external communications and presentations, ensuring clarity, appropriate tone, and strategic alignment.
- Maintain systems to track projects, action items, and deliverables across businesses, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Filter, prioritize, and close the loop on incoming requests and decisions requiring the founder’s attention.
Board & Governance Coordination
Distill board materials to equip the founder with clear, actionable insights ahead of meetings.Track board commitments, decisions, and follow-ups across all companies.Coordinate agendas, schedules, and meeting outcomes with board chairs, identifying gaps or risks proactively.Strategic Partnership & Special Projects
Support the evaluation of cross-entity synergies and shared resource opportunities.Represent the founder in critical meetings, confidential discussions, and negotiations when appropriate.Lead special projects requiring cross-functional alignment across businesses.Conduct research and develop recommendations on strategic opportunities and challenges.Relationship & Stakeholder Management
Serve as liaison between the Founding Shareholder and senior executives, board members, partners, and key stakeholders.Build trust-based relationships internally and externally, ensuring efficient communication.Interact confidently with diverse, high-powered personalities while maintaining professionalism and diplomacy.Recommended Qualifications & Attributes
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, JD) or equivalent experience preferred.7-10 years of executive-level support, strategic project management, or consulting experience, ideally within a founder-led, multi-business environment.Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex information into clear, actionable messages.Proven track record working with strong, assertive leaders while maintaining composure and influence.Highly organized with advanced skills in scheduling, information management, and prioritization.Strong business acumen and ability to identify inefficiencies and operational improvements.Self-starter with high emotional intelligence, resilience, and a solutions-oriented mindset.Excellent judgment and critical thinking, with the ability to anticipate needs and challenge ideas respectfully while remaining aligned with the founder’s vision.Flexible and adaptable, able to pivot seamlessly across businesses and priorities.Compensation, Benefits & Logistics :
