Payroll Tax Specialist

The Payroll Tax Specialist plays a vital role within the Payroll Department, focusing on accurate and timely payroll processing. This position is responsible for reviewing timekeeping records, calculating wages, managing deductions, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax regulations and company policies. This role requires a solid understanding of payroll operations, tax reporting, and proficiency with payroll systems. This is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Serves as primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, resolving issues and providing accurate information.
• Processes new hires, rehires, employee / manager changes in the payroll system.
• Administers weekly and bi-weekly payrolls for approximately 4,000 employees.
• Reviews, balances and approves quarterly and annual payroll tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
• Troubleshoots and resolves complex tax issues.
• Configures and maintains state and local tax settings within the payroll system.
• Provides documentation for internal and external audits.
• Ensures compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations.
• Processes payments for federal and multi-state withholdings.
• Verifies and maintains accurate setup of employee deductions.
• Offers payroll support and guidance to managers.
• Assists with the administration of garnishments, liens and child support payments, qualified transportation benefits, The Container Store 401(k) Plan, leaves of absence, short term and long term disability.
• Manages filing / document imaging tasks.
• Shares expertise to support team development and continuous improvement.
• Maintains punctuality and adheres to assigned work schedule.
• Handles confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
• Performs additional duties and tasks assigned.
