The Opportunity
- Function as a technical specialist in the areas of conventional and advanced wastewater treatment
- Use processes such as physical / chemical primary treatment, conventional activated sludge, biological nutrient removal, fixed-film processes, membrane bio-reactors (MBR), sidestream treatment, tertiary filtration, auxiliary wet-weather treatment, and disinfection
- Under supervision you will develop and apply wastewater treatment and engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex engineering problems for treatment of various wastewater with varying quality
- Primarily focus on continuing to grow our rapidly expanding business in the Midwest; it would also include diverse opportunities in wastewater as part of a team that directs the process design for wastewater treatment projects around the world for a global engineering firm

Engineering :
Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables, including process models, process / mass balance calculations, design criteria / basis of design memoranda, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, tradeoff studies, and master planning studiesTypically supports multiple projects simultaneously with complex technical challengesServes as a technical specialist with knowledge and skillset providing guidance to project teams in conventional and / or emerging wastewater treatment technologiesPerforms complex research, including applied research activities involving bench, pilot, and full-scale testing to select or assess performance of treatment processes and incorporating the data into process modelsWorks collaboratively with process team to develop recommendations for appropriate treatment processes, equipment and / or materials selectionEngages on collection, assimilation, analysis, and management of data for process modeling and design workPrepares process models and carries out complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principlesDevelops life cycle assessment, including conceptual-level life cycle costs, and environmental and social benefits, to evaluate and select resilient treatment solutionsActively coordinates with internal and external team members for successful project executionClient Focus :
Assists with identification of key client interests and drivers for ongoing projects and new business prospectsDevelops creative solutions and approaches to accommodate our clients' goals and objectivesProvides support to business development or pursuit activities, including involvement in pre-positioning meetings, proposal development, client interviews, identification of winning sales messagesAttends and presents on state-of-the-art wastewater treatment projects and thought leadership ideas at local, regional and national conferencesEngineering Standards :
Provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, and applicable engineering codes related to water quality and treatmentAssists in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standardsProvides technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplinesQuality / Continuous Improvement :
Applies knowledge and complies with Black & Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasksWorks in compliance with Black & Veatch quality programProvides related guidance and direction to more junior team membersSupports continuous improvement and change management effortsActively coordinates with all other internal / external team members on moderately complex projectsPreferred Qualifications
Advanced degree (Master's or Doctoral) in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering preferred5 years of experience in wastewater treatment process designExperience with using modern process simulators such as BioWin, GPS-X, Sumo, and / or Simba#Effective written and oral communications, Drive for Results, Priority Setting, Planning, Delegation, Informing, And ListeningEager to learn and contribute to team successMinimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor\'s degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicingMinimum of 5 years related work experienceAll applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any / all of the following : criminal / civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.Certifications
