Job Overview
David Hall Masonry, Inc. is looking for an experienced and detail-driven Preconstruction Manager to lead our expanding Estimating Department. In this leadership role, you will oversee a team of 3-4 Estimators, guiding the preparation of accurate and timely bid proposals, managing change orders, and ensuring strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams. Reporting to the Company President, you will manage the full estimating lifecycle—from bid strategy and budget tracking to standardizing estimating procedures. Your work will help win new work and support project success by delivering well-coordinated, competitive estimates that reflect high standards of craftsmanship and efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership & Development : Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing estimating team; mentor junior estimators; manage department KPIs.
- Bid Management & Oversight : Evaluate bid invitations; assign estimating projects; oversee preparation and submission of competitive bid proposals; revise estimates; coordinate input from departments, subcontractors, and suppliers; ensure proposal formats meet client requirements and internal standards; maintain bid log and estimating database.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication : Act as primary contact for clients during proposals; maintain client relationships and identify opportunities for future business; participate in pre- and post-bid meetings; coordinate with President on strategic decisions; review awarded contracts against bid documents.
- Process & Quality Control : Standardize estimating process; conduct desk reviews to ensure proper documentation (contracts, LOIs, proposals); track change orders and manage documentation in Procore; coordinate material submittals, procurement, and scheduling with Operations; support handoff to Project Management when projects are awarded.
- Cost Analysis & Optimization : Review supplier and subcontractor quotes; analyze data for cost efficiencies; apply cost engineering techniques; monitor economic trends and assess risk in estimating strategy.
- Additional Responsibilities : Assist with building permit submissions; promote company services to existing and prospective clients.
Qualifications
Experience & Education : 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a related leadership role; High School Diploma or GED required; additional coursework in construction management or business is a plus.Leadership & Team Management : Strong leadership abilities with experience mentoring estimating teams; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Communication & Client Relations : Excellent written and verbal communication; client-focused with ability to present proposals, lead meetings, and build relationships.Analytical & Technical Expertise : Numerate with strong analytical skills; attention to detail in evaluating bid proposals and change orders; experience managing supplier relationships and adapting to material lead times.Regulatory & Documentation Proficiency : Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical documents and regulations; capable of writing reports and procedural documentation.Software & Technology Skills : Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project; experience with On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, and Procore.Industry Knowledge : Knowledge of construction industry standards, cost estimating methodologies, and ability to conduct research and present proposals.Benefits
