Job Summary
This position is based out of Tampa, FL. The Assistant Engineer's primary responsibilities include managing the operation and maintenance of the vessel's engineering systems under the Chief Engineer's supervision, including performing routine and emergency repairs, conducting watches, maintaining logbooks, and ensuring crew safety. Key responsibilities involve maintaining mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, from propulsion to auxiliary machinery, while also overseeing the engine room operations for both the tug and barge.
Responsibilities / Job Duties
Assisting the Chief Engineer and other engineering personnel in operating and maintaining the vessel's machinery, including engines, generators, pumps, and refrigeration systems.Performing regular inspections, maintenance, and repairs on mechanical equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.Monitoring and troubleshooting engineering systems to identify and resolve any issues that may arise during the voyage.Following safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the vessel's cargo.Collaborating with other crew members to coordinate operational activities and ensure smooth functioning of the vessel.Requirements / Qualifications
USCG Merchant Mariner Credential endorsements (international and national) capable of foreign voyages. Submit a copy of your current MMC with your online application.Endorsements include : International STCW Endorsements (Officer in charge of an Engineering Watch, Medical First Aid Provider, Able Seafarer-Engine, RFPEW, STCW Basic Safety Training, PSC, VPDSD)National Endorsements : Engineering Officer - Assistant Engineer Limited (3rd Assistant Engineer of Motor Propelled Vessels Unlimited HP preferred), QMED-Any Rating, Lifeboatman, Ordinary Seaman, Wiper, Steward's Department (F.H.)Tankerman Assistant limited to Dangerous Liquid (DL) Cargoes PIC endorsement is preferredMust hold a valid USCG / STCW medical certificateMust hold a valid TWIC card and U.S. PassportEducation / Experience
Maritime Academy graduate preferredPrior experience as an Assistant Engineer preferredABS Nautical Systems NS5 experience preferredCaustic Soda experience preferredPhysical Requirements
Able to work in confined spaces, carry heavy tools, climb and descend ladders, and lift and carry loads at least 40 poundsMust have current USCG STCW Medical Certificate, renewed every 2 yearsAdditional Information
