ABOUT THE POSITION

The HR Generalist oversees human resources functions while fostering a supportive, equitable, and legally compliant workplace. This position will serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations and HR strategy across a variety of staff groups, including full and part-time administrative staff, artists, musicians, teaching artists, and union employees.

The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, with a passion for people-centered work and a strong understanding of nonprofit and / or performing arts environments.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Human Resources Strategy & Operations
• Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local labor laws (including Washington State-specific regulations)
• Manage and execute full employee lifecycle : recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and offboarding
• Administer compensation and benefits, and manage relationships with third-party platforms (e.g. Paycom)
• Maintain accurate employee records and oversee HRIS systems
• Employee and Labor Relations : Serve as a key resource and trusted advisor to employees and managers for questions, concerns, and support for conflict resolution
• Facilitate timely, effective resolution of employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality and compliance
• Support and guide managers on performance management, documentation, and team communication
• Partner with leadership to foster a collaborative and inclusive organizational culture
• Union experience a plus : Collaborate with leadership on union relations, including administration of collective bargaining agreements and handling of grievances
• Compliance and Risk Management
• Ensure organizational compliance with employment laws, workplace safety standards, and HR best practices. File and manage submission of related data and filings
• Maintain up-to-date employee handbook and organizational policies
• Lead HR training on key topics for employees
• Create and maintain processes for employee documentation

COMPENSATION

Hourly rate for this position is $31.50 / hr
