Job Title : National Account Manager Generic Pharmaceuticals

Reports To : Director / Head of Sales & Marketing US Generics
Position Summary
The National Account Manager will be responsible for managing and expanding relationships with key national accounts in the generic pharmaceutical marketplace. This role will drive revenue growth through active customer engagement, new business awards, competitive bid participation, and effective negotiation on price and volume commitments. The individual will serve as the primary point of contact for customer interactions across commercial, operational, and compliance matters, while also providing competitive intelligence and market feedback to guide portfolio and pipeline decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Account Management & Relationship Building
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key national accounts, wholesalers, and retail chains.
- Serve as the primary liaison for all account-related discussions, ensuring timely and effective communication.
- Negotiate new product awards, annual volume commitments, and price agreements within established profitability targets.
- Partner with customers to understand market trends and align on mutual growth strategies.
Commercial Excellence
Lead participation in bids, RFP cycles, and product portfolio submissions , collaborating with internal pricing, supply chain, and legal teams to ensure competitive and compliant offers.Oversee new product introductions , ensuring smooth launch execution, timely customer notifications, and availability in alignment with customer expectations and internal supply plans.Monitor key account performance metrics including volume trends, inventory positions, and forecast accuracy ; drive corrective actions in collaboration with supply chain and customer teams.Conduct regular business reviews with customers to discuss supply metrics, overstocks, and marketing initiatives.Operational & Compliance Interface
Address operational issues proactively, including managing overstocks, coordinating returns, and resolving deductions / chargebacks / penalties with documented justification and internal collaboration.Ensure adherence to contractual terms, regulatory guidelines, and compliance policies in all customer interactions.Provide input to internal compliance and finance teams regarding disputes, deductions, and payment issues.Competitive Intelligence & Pipeline Feedback
Gather and relay market and competitive intelligence from customer discussions, bids, and public data to inform pricing strategies and future portfolio planning.Provide structured pipeline feedback to internal portfolio, marketing, and R&D teams, identifying opportunities for line extensions, portfolio gaps, and upcoming market events.Monitor competitor product launches, pricing shifts, and distribution strategies to proactively adjust account strategies.Strategic Collaboration & Reporting
Work closely with internal cross-functional teams (Supply Chain, Finance, Quality, Regulatory, Marketing, Portfolio Management) to ensure consistent service delivery and execution of commercial strategies.Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, pricing agreements, and contractual obligations.Prepare and present regular account status reports, market intelligence updates , and revenue forecasts to senior management.Key Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Business, Life Sciences, or a related field; MBA preferred.3+ years of experience in pharmaceutical account management, preferably within the US generic pharmaceutical market .Proven track record in customer relationship management , contract negotiation, and revenue growth.Deep understanding of generic pharmaceutical commercial processes including bids, RFPs, pricing structures, compliance, and market intelligence gathering.Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.Ability to work cross-functionally and travel as needed (~2030%).Competencies
