Reporting to the Director of Payroll, the Payroll Controls and Compliance Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll while maintaining strict adherence to federal, state, and local employment laws, tax regulations, and collective bargaining agreements. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of compliance and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risk within payroll operations.

Core Capabilities and Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Processing & Compliance

• Administer the precise calculation and disbursement of payroll, integrating data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and compliance across a dynamic workforce, ensuring correct application of earnings, deductions, and taxes
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, New York State, and New York City payroll laws and regulations through continuous research
• Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements as they relate to payroll processing
• Proactively identify and mitigate risks within payroll operations and develop actionable recommendations to mitigate potential issues and ensure compliance with regulatory bodies
• Lead the development of institutional payroll policies
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and timekeeping issues, ensuring timely and accurate corrections

Work Mode

This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement. Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee.

Salary Range

$70,000 - $80,000 per annum
