The Torts Division in the Washington State Attorney General's Office seeks trial attorneys eager to practice in state and federal courts in Washington. The division represents State agencies and State employees who perform public duties and handles cases from inception through resolution, across a variety of theories of liability. The work involves ongoing training and development and provides opportunities to grow as an oral and written advocate within a collaborative team.

The Torts Division has offices in Seattle, Tacoma, Olympia (Tumwater), and Spokane and offers telework in a hybrid work environment.

The vacancies are based in Spokane, Washington.

Responsibilities

• Represent the State in tort claims and lawsuits arising from acts or omissions while performing official duties, and provide risk management and legal advice to client agencies and the Office of Financial Management on tort matters.
• Manage cases from inception to resolution, including discovery, trial preparation, and handling jury and bench trials, with support from paralegals and investigators.
• Develop and execute trial strategy; lead trial teams; handle appeals; and engage in all aspects of affirmative and defensive discovery.
• Collaborate with client agencies, risk managers, and other AGO attorneys to address diverse issues and ensure effective public service.
