The State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation (CTDOT), is accepting applications for a Transportation Engineer 3 (Engineering) position in our Office of State Traffic Administration (OSTA) Unit located at our Headquarters in Newington.
Introduction
The Office of the State Traffic Administration (OSTA) sets standard rules of the road, also known as regulations, to make sure Connecticut roads are safe and in good condition for the traveling public. Staff work closely with the Local Traffic Authorities (LTA) in each town regarding the posting of signs, markings, and traffic signals on State highways and local roads.

First Shift.Full-time, 40 hours per week.Monday through Friday.This position is eligible to apply for telework after successful completion of the working test period, and thereafter, in accordance with the Telework Policy.THE ROLE
The Transportation Engineer 3 (Engineering) will be responsible for the supervision of working level engineers, the review of office staff determinations regarding speed limit studies, traffic signal reviews, passing zone reviews, no through truck investigations, parkway permits, and other requests.
Supervising staff of working level engineers.Reviewing Major Traffic Generator (MTG) applications to be regulated via Administrative Decision (AD) or Certification.Coordinating scoping or technical meetings regarding MTG applications with OSTA staff, consultants, developers, municipal officials, other DOT units, and other stakeholders.Conducting field reviews for MTG applications, speed limit studies, passing zone studies, no through truck investigations, and other requests.Reviewing Automated Traffic Enforcement Safety Device (ATESD) applicationsReviewing requests for Parkway permits from applicants.Analyzing problems and recommend effective solutions.Preparing and reviewing technical reports for MTG applications, speed limit reviews, traffic signal revisions, and other requests.Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in engineering and three (3) years of experience in transportation engineering.
Purpose of Job Class
In the Department of Transportation and the Connecticut Airport Authority this class is accountable for acting as a working lead who assists a supervisor in supervising a designated group of employees and / or for performing the most complex engineering or related tasks in one or more aspects of engineering projects or studies.
Working Conditions
Incumbents in this class may be exposed to some danger of injury or physical harm from highway or construction environments and a moderate degree of discomfort from exposure to year round weather conditions.
