The Engine Division of Kawasaki Motors Corp, headquartered in Grand Rapids, MI has an immediate opening for a Calibration Engineer based in Grand Rapids, MI.
As a Calibration Engineer, you are responsible for providing technical responsibility for engine calibration and deployment from prototype stage through production while supporting engine hardware development. This Calibration Engineer must be able to thrive in a fast paced environment with a high level of motivation and accountability.
What you'll do :
Provide fuel injection calibrations to achieve emissions and performance targetsRecommend changes to the calibration strategies, testing procedures or engine hardware to achieve target objectivesPerform standardized, prescribed or diverse test assignments while maintaining detailed test recordsPerform setup and instrumentation of calibration vehicles and enginesUtilize precision test equipment and measurement devicesCommunicate within Kawasaki and suppliers to discuss schedules, program needs and test dataOn occasion, independently travel to test locations and suppliersCoordination of test vehicles and necessary test equipmentParticipation in vehicle test sessions in different locations (summer and winter)Project handling and project documentation according to specified processesPerforming release procedures (verification and validation) for software for different sample stages as well as final production softwareValidation of the calibration under various factorsDevelop test plans to provide detailed evaluations of various engine control systemsLeading vehicle or dyno based attribute assessment for engine control systems, and identifying opportunities for improvementDetailing instrumentation and test requirements to techniciansRefining and running powertrain models to characterize system interactions & sensitivities, as well as to develop or assess controls requirements and calibration approachesChecking data quality and correcting problems when issues are foundInterpreting results and assimilating findings into a documented summaryDevelop functional guidelines for engine control systemsCommunicating results and conclusions with interfacing activities and managementEducation and Experience :
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degreeEmphasis with controls systems a plus6+ years of experience with engine calibration or similarKnowledge of fuel injection calibration strategies and technologiesKnowledge of data acquisition systems and sensorsThorough understanding of CANbus CommunicationProficient with ETAS, INCA and MDAKnowledge of combustion analysis toolsExperience with Engine Test Bed & Dynamometer AutomationKnowledge of Design of ExperimentsModel based Calibration experience a plusGood business math and reasoning abilityProficient organizational and communication skillsWho We Are :
