The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Correctional Officer Sergeant for an internal promotional opportunity at Gulf Correctional Institution in Wewahitchka, Florida (Gulf County). This position requires current FDC employees only and must be applied for using the People First system. Applications will be accepted electronically until 11 : 59 pm ET on the closing date. Minimum qualifications include being at least 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, possessing a High School Diploma or equivalent, and having completed the basic recruit training course for correctional officers with one year of experience as a certified officer with the State of Florida. Additional requirements include no suspension within the past 12 months, no involuntary demotion within the past 24 months, and a minimum 3.00 rating on a performance evaluation within the past three fiscal years.
Specific duties include supervising inmates, managing inmate housing, enforcing rules and sanitation standards, transporting inmates, conducting accurate head counts, maintaining custody and control over inmates, performing crisis intervention functions, maintaining facility security, providing emergency assistance, directing correctional officers, attending mandatory training, and performing other related duties as required.
