We have an opening for an Executive Director of Business Development within our Commercial division.
This is a Remote with travel position.
The Executive Director of Business Development drives regional / vertical growth by setting strategy and targets, leading and coaching BD Directors / Senior Directors, and owning high-impact pursuits.
As the senior commercial partner to Operations, Feasibility, Finance, and Commercial Ops, they align client needs with site capabilities, manage pipeline health and revenue forecasts, and guide deals from qualification through negotiation and close.
They cultivate executive relationships with sponsors / CROs, represent the company at industry forums, and develop BD talent, ensuring a data-driven, scalable engine for sustained revenue expansion.
Work Setting :

RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for regional / vertical sales strategy and performance targets.
- Manage and grow critical client relationships and strategic partnerships, both new and existing.
- Lead, coach, and develop Business Development Directors and Senior Directors as asked upon.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, and Commercial Operations, Feasibility Teams and Strategic Partnerships to align business strategies with execution capacity.
- Oversee sales pipeline reporting and revenue forecasting for assigned segment.
- Serve as primary commercial representative in leadership discussions regarding growth planning and partnerships.
- Identify market trends and emerging opportunities for network expansion.
- Represent Flourish Research at industry conferences and executive meetings.
- Identify, qualify, and close new business opportunities within assigned region, therapeutic or partnership vertical.
- Build and manage sales pipeline using CRM tools and reporting systems.
- Develop and execute account strategies to grow relationships with key sponsors, CROs, or therapeutic area partners.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders (Operations, Feasibility, Commercial Operations) to align client needs with site capabilities.
- Manage client interactions, presentations, and contract negotiations.
- Maintain current understanding of Flourish Research’s service offerings, site network capacity, and therapeutic expertise.
- Report regularly on pipeline health, sales performance, and market trends.
- Accountable and full ownership of assigned sales target Focus on building trusted client relationships and building prospective targets and qualified pipeline within assigned geography, industry focus or therapeutic target Collaborate with business development colleagues across business channels / functions to assure best possible win strategies Lead development of strategic sales plans for assigned region or industry channel.
- Manage high-profile or complex client relationships.
- Identify growth opportunities and negotiate strategic partnership agreements.
- Mentor and support the professional development of Associate and Director-level colleagues.
- Collaborate closely with Commercial Operations and assigned Feasibility Team to optimize CRM use and sales reporting and client deliverables.
- Lead strategic presentations to client executives and internal leadership.
- Track market trends and recommend channel-specific strategies.
- Assist in onboarding and incorporating new sites into business development strategy and support integration of new sites into sales discussions as needed.
- Provide regular forecasts, sales data, and strategic recommendations to leadership.
- Represent Flourish Research in a professional and courteous manner (verbal, written, and in appearance) when interacting with all staff, clients, and vendors.
- Additional duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS Required Education :
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or relevant advanced degree strongly preferred.Required Experience :
10+ years of progressive business development experience in clinical research or life sciences.Proven leadership and team development experience.Consistent record of meeting / exceeding sales targets.Expertise with CRM systems, reporting, and data-driven decision making.Experience managing both net-new business and strategic accounts, including complex negotiations.Strong communication, presentation, and executive reporting skills.Knowledge & Skills :
