Job Summary :
The Delivery Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all delivery operations within the retail store and lumber yard, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional service to customers. This role supervises the delivery team, enforces logistics procedures, and ensures alignment with company-wide delivery standards. The Delivery Manager works closely with the Inventory Manager, sales team, and warehouse staff to coordinate product movement and resolve delivery issues. In the absence of the Location Manager, this position serves as store leadership alongside the Inventory Manager. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, operational discipline, and deep knowledge of delivery logistics within the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry.
Key Responsibilities :
Team Leadership & Oversight :
Supervise and provide daily direction to the delivery team, including drivers and delivery load builders and yard foremen (where applicable). Ensure accountability for performance, safety, and adherence to delivery procedures.
Delivery Operations Management :
Oversee all aspects of delivery logistics, including route planning, load accuracy, and customer service standards. Ensure timely and complete deliveries that meet company expectations.
Process Compliance & Improvement :
Implement and enforce delivery procedures and safety protocols as outlined in the fleet safety program. Monitor performance metrics and drive continuous improvement in delivery efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Cross-Functional Coordination :
Collaborate with the Inventory Manager, sales team, and receiving staff to ensure product availability, accurate staging, and smooth handoff for deliveries.
Issue Resolution & Communication :
Proactively address delivery challenges, including delays, damages, or customer concerns. Maintain clear communication with internal teams and customers to resolve issues promptly.
Leadership Support :
Serve as acting store management in the absence of the Location Manager, working in partnership with the Inventory Manager to maintain operational continuity and team leadership.
Corporate Liaison :
Act as the primary point of contact for company-wide delivery initiatives and standards. Ensure local delivery practices reflect corporate expectations and contribute to overall service excellence.
Qualifications : Experience :
Minimum of 35 years in delivery or logistics management, preferably within the lumber and building materials industry.
Skills :
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Proven ability to train, supervise, and hold teams accountable.
Knowledge :
In-depth understanding of delivery logistics, safety protocols, and customer service standards.
Technical Proficiency :
Experience with delivery routing systems, inventory management software, and point-of-sale systems.
