Summary : This is a highly skilled and supervisory role involving the review of plumbing system plans and on-site inspections to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code , Miami-Dade County Code , and other applicable plumbing regulations. The role includes evaluating water supply and waste systems, enforcing environmental regulations, and occasionally acting as Chief Inspector.
Key Responsibilities :
- Review and analyze plumbing plans, blueprints, and specifications for code compliance before permit issuance.
- Inspect proposed or existing plumbing installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Evaluate water supply and waste systems to ensure safe and sanitary designs that prevent contamination.
- Approve or disapprove plans and work with architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve issues.
- Enforce DERM (Department of Environmental Resource Management) regulations.
- Conduct joint inspections, Certificate of Use inspections, and follow up on public complaints.
- Assist with legal cases related to code violations.
- Prepare reports and maintain accurate records of inspections and code compliance.
- Supervise and assign inspections and may act as Chief Inspector when assigned.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements :
Must meet qualifications as both a Plumbing Inspector and Plumbing Plans Examiner under :Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and AppealsFlorida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors BoardFlorida StatutesMinimum of 2–4 years of supervisory experience related to plumbing inspections within the Florida Building Code / HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone) .Valid Florida Class E Driver’s License required prior to appointment.May require working nights, weekends, or holidays based on department needs.Skills & Abilities :
In-depth knowledge of plumbing systems, code requirements, and construction practices.Ability to detect design flaws and plumbing defects and recommend corrective actions.Proficient in interpreting technical plans and specifications under tight deadlines.Familiarity with local plumbing history, materials, and industry standards in Miami.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation and reporting.Excellent interpersonal skills to work with contractors, engineers, and the public.Ability to lead and supervise teams effectively, fostering high morale and performance.Work Environment & Physical Demands :
Primarily office-based work with regular outdoor inspections at construction sites.Frequent sitting, standing, climbing stairs / ladders, and using hands for inspection tools and computers.Occasional exposure to dust, fumes, high temperatures, and lifting up to 14 lbs.Requires reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English.Visa sponsorship not available for this position.
