What is this role?
Cirkul is seeking a motivated and ambitious Controls Engineer to join our Power, Controls, and Information Systems (PC&IS) team. This role combines hands-on technical work with opportunities for growth in project management, vendor engagement, and long-term obsolescence mitigation strategies. The Controls Engineer will support day-to-day operations, troubleshoot and improve production systems, and lead the integration and commissioning of new equipment across our facilities. Responsibilities
- Driving Results : Program, maintain, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and supporting networks to ensure reliable, efficient production operations. Execute both small-scale improvements with minimal oversight and advanced integration projects (such as inspection systems) with close collaboration and guidance.
- Taking Ownership : Support commissioning of new equipment and plant start-up activities, ensuring seamless integration into production. Maintain system documentation, troubleshooting guides, and contribute to the standardization of controls practices across facilities.
- Making Decisions : Utilize controls technologies (PLC, HMI, SCADA, and industrial networking) to identify and implement improvement opportunities. Support long-term strategies for controls upgrades and obsolescence mitigation by staying up-to-date with industry advancements.
- Cultivating Relationships : Collaborate cross-functionally with production, logistics, supply chain, accounting, automation engineering, and IT to gather requirements and deliver effective solutions. Interface with external machine builders and vendors to ensure equipment meets Cirkul's standards and performance requirements.
- Instilling Trust : Follow safety and compliance standards while ensuring that control systems operate reliably and securely. Deliver high-quality work consistently, even under tight deadlines, and maintain clear, proactive communication.
- Customer Focus : Actively support production teams by responding quickly to operational issues and helping to drive uptime improvements. Develop scalable, reliable control solutions that align with Cirkul's commitment to efficiency, sustainability, and innovation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent work experience).1–2 years of experience with Siemens PLCs (S7-1200 and TIA Portal a plus).Hands-on experience supporting filling equipment or other high-speed manufacturing systems (inspection systems experience a plus).Proven ability to assist with machine commissioning and plant start-ups. Strong electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.Familiarity with programming languages and tools used in controls engineering (Ladder Logic, Structured Text, C / C++, Java, Python, AutoCAD).Excellent organizational and documentation skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with internal teams and external partners.Allen Bradley experience is a plus.Positive attitude, team-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced, growth-driven environment.What we offer
