Hanson Search is hiring : Senior PR Manager, Law Firm / New York in New York

I am working with a leading international law firm, seeking a Senior PR Manager to work under the direction of the global communications director from the law firm’s New York office, in developing, managing and executing strategic public relations, with a focus on the US market.

Based in New York, the Senior Manager of PR, U.S. will work to develop and implement institutional and targeted industry / practice media plans for the law firm, with reach to the business, general, trade, legal and web press.

The successful candidate will have a hands-on, collaborative style with a proven track record creating and implementing sophisticated PR strategies for the law firm. An existing network of journalist contacts in the US from top business, legal, general, trade and web press is essential.

Media Strategies

• Work with the Global Director of Communications to create media strategies that reflect the firm’s brand and positioning, disseminate key messages, and achieve the media coverage goals of the firm and practice groups.
• Target relevant business reporters covering key practice areas and understand how to present metrics and value add through regular reporting.
• Research media markets via geography, industry and any other medium as necessary.
• Identify potential news, topics, and comment opportunities. Responsible for driving the quantity and quality of media coverage for the firm and the region.

Media Contact

• Responsible for communicating the organization’s position on topics and issues to the media and public in general.
• Coordinate interviews and meetings with reporters and lawyers, talent & diversity and others.
• Routinely meet and interact with members of the press to establish and maintain key working relationships.

Publicity, Placements

• Leverage and maintain relationships with local, national, and trade press, and implement a media contact strategy.
• Coordinate with the broader public relations team to increase the US profile among relevant top tier and trade / sector publications in the US and EMEA.
• Provide insightful and effective input into raising Dechert’s profile.
• Actively generate and seek story ideas and pitch to local and national legal, general business and trade press.
• Write press releases, pitch letters, and other publicity copy.
• Monitor advertising calendars of relevant publications and communicate / recommend opportunities.
• Advise lawyers on press response techniques.

Other

• Management responsibilities for the strategizing on global PR initiatives working with Global Director, Communications and EMEA PR team.

QUALIFICATIONS / KSAs

• Significant media contacts across all formats, preferably in the legal industry Superior oral and written communication skills.
• Proven ability to deal with complex subject matter – preferably legal or financial.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

• College degree or equivalent with an emphasis on communications, journalism, public relations, business or English.
• 10-15 years relevant experience.
• Understanding of legal industry preferred
