Strategic Sourcing Manager, Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Goldman Sachs is seeking an exceptional Strategic Sourcing Manager to embed directly within our AI ecosystem, partnering closely with the AI Engineering team. This pivotal role will develop and execute a comprehensive sourcing strategy for our AI and emerging technology stack in the Technology category, reporting to the Software category leader.
Overview
The Corporate Planning & Management (CPM) Division unifies Finance & Planning, Spend Management, Operational Risk and Resilience, and CPM Engineering to deliver business planning and analytics, expense management, third party risk management, and governance strategies across the firm. The CPM Division includes five operating pillars : Finance & Planning; Product Finance; Spend Management; Operational Risk & Resilience; and CPM Engineering. This role sits within the Spend Management pillar and partners with AI leadership across Technology, including AI, software / SaaS, cloud compute, hardware, storage, telecommunications, multimedia, and co-location engagements. The role will report into the Software category leader and contribute to the firm's AI strategy and vendor relationships.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Sourcing for AI / ML Technologies : Implement proactive, long-term sourcing strategies for AI / ML technologies (cloud AI / ML platforms such as AWS SageMaker, Azure ML, Google AI Platform; specialized hardware; data labeling services; proprietary AI software; MLOps tools; model governance; ethical AI tools; external data sets). Conduct market research and vendor landscape analysis; collaborate with AI leadership and engineering teams to translate requirements and roadmaps into actionable sourcing strategies and commercial opportunities.
- Commercial Negotiation & Contract Management : Lead complex negotiations for high-value AI technology agreements with optimal pricing, favorable terms, robust SLAs, and clear intellectual property rights; manage data privacy, data security, data usage, ethical AI principles, and regulatory compliance (e.g., DORA, GDPR, CCPA); manage the full contract lifecycle from RFP to contract execution and ongoing performance management.
- Spend Optimization & Value Realization : Identify opportunities for spend consolidation across AI technology purchases; eliminate rogue spend; drive Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses and business cases; secure cost savings and enhanced service levels and innovation from the supplier base.
- Stakeholder & Supplier Relationship Management : Build trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders (e.g., Head of AI, engineering leads, legal, risk management, cybersecurity) and manage strategic supplier relationships; act as the primary interface between the firm's AI leadership and the supplier community.
- Risk Management & Compliance : Ensure sourcing activities and supplier relationships adhere to Goldman Sachs's third-party risk management policies and regulatory requirements; work with TPRM and Legal on due diligence, risk assessments, and contractual compliance, particularly regarding data governance and IP in AI.

Basic Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree or equivalent; CPSM certification or MBA a plusStrategic Sourcing Expertise : 3-5+ years in strategic sourcing, category management, and contract negotiation in the technology domainFinancial Acumen : Strong understanding of financial analysis, TCO, business case development, and budget management; ability to quantify and articulate financial impactNegotiation & Influence : Strong negotiation skills with the ability to achieve favorable commercial outcomes while maintaining strong supplier relationships; ability to influence senior stakeholders across technical and business functionsStakeholder Management : Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with diverse internal teams and external suppliersProject Management : Strong organizational skills to manage multiple complex sourcing initiatives in a fast-paced environmentAI Technology Landscape Knowledge : Understanding of the AI / ML landscape, including vendors, trends, architectures, and use cases (e.g., NLP, computer vision, predictive analytics)Cloud & Software Sourcing : Experience sourcing cloud-based services (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and enterprise software; knowledge of licensing models, consumption-based pricing, and API integrationData & IP Acumen : Familiarity with data governance and data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), data security best practices, and IP considerations related to AI models, training data, and algorithmsTechnical Translation : Ability to translate engineering and data science requirements into commercially viable sourcing strategies and contractual termsPreferred Qualifications
