Overview
Associate Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering — WSP USA. This opportunity supports the National Maritime Practice Group with locations in Irvine, CA; San Diego, CA; Houston, TX; and Raleigh, NC.
Responsibilities
- Provide leadership for engineering tasks by collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the field, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and other data matrices for project development, design, and construction.
- Apply advanced engineering techniques to develop project design requirements, incorporating marine-practice standards and specifications; identify site, design, and construction risks and provide mitigation solutions.
- Lead development of construction plans, schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects; prepare and implement site safety plans and coordinate field activities.
- Oversee cross-functional teams on mid-level projects or multiple smaller projects; collaborate with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded projects; track budgets and milestones and support Plans, Specifications and Estimate (PS&E) submissions.
- Write technical reports and document findings using sketches, calculations, spreadsheets, drawings, and engineering software (including SAP200 and similar FEM tools).
- Prepare and present findings and recommendations to internal teams and clients.
- Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
- Adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct, perform assigned trainings, and exercise ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.1 to 3 years of post-education experience in engineering with marine and coastal design experience (rehabilitation and new design).Ability to perform technical computations and analyses applying engineering principles to ports and marine structures; strong technical writing skills; proficiency in engineering software and fundamentals.Experience with AutoCAD, SAP2000, and similar tools; familiarity with design / build processes.Knowledge of building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.Ability to lead site inspections / investigations per applicable regulations and policies.Self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and ability to work independently with QA / QC compliance; ability to guide junior team members.Team leadership experience, coordinating subconsultants to complete tasks safely and effectively.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for engineering and non-engineering audiences.Commitment to workplace safety and compliance with health, safety, and harassment policies.Ability to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek and occasional travel as required.Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.EIT or Professional Engineering license.3 to 5 years of relevant experience in marine and coastal design.Experience with REVIT and other BIM tools; experience with LSDYNA or similar engineering software.Active participation in local professional organizations.Experience with marine, port, and coastal construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.Compensation and Benefits
