This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office for Victims of Crime (OVC).

Duties

To meet agency needs, this position will be filled as a temporary promotion, not-to-exceed (NTE) 6 months. At management discretion, this appointment may be extended or be made permanent without further competition.

The selectee may be returned, at any time during the temporary promotion, to the position held prior to this temporary promotion.

  • Provides direct supervision and managerial oversight to a team of professional staff. Assigns and reviews work, provides guidance and training, evaluates performance, recruits and recommends action regarding hiring, and addresses personnel issues.
  • Provides expert advice, guidance, and support to the OVC Director on administrative and policy aspects of OVC programs, proposals, and initiatives, as well as significant and anticipated challenges.
  • Assists in reviewing, interpreting, and assessing advisories and formal documents from other professionals to effectively advance OVC's and OJP's mission.
  • Attends conferences and meetings with the Director, engaging with members of OVC, OJP, officials from other Department components, federal agency staff, Congressional staff, and White House personnel.
  • Oversees the Director's speechwriting process, collaborating with OVC Deputy Directors, Associate Directors, and staff to develop timely talking points and speeches that align with OVC's latest data and programmatic information.
  • Facilitates and participates in planning initiatives, documenting these efforts accordingly. Reviews projections, priorities, justifications, and resource allocations for these plans.

Supports the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs, providing recommendations on feasible planning strategies within current resource constraints.

Salary

$163,964 - $191,900 / year

Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Examples of specialized experience include :

  • Providing strategic direction and oversight to a wide range of programs and initiatives that support crime victims, ensuring they receive comprehensive and effective assistance.
  • Overseeing the development and implementation of national policies and programs that directly impact state, local, and tribal agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations dedicated to victim services.
  • Monitoring significant developments in crime victim policy and programs to assess their potential impact to an agency.
  • Preparing speeches, remarks, and other talking points for senior leadership on crime victim policy topics for presentation to various stakeholders and the media.

There is no education requirement for this position.

Other Information

  • This position may be eligible for telework per agency policy.
  • This position has a duty station of Washington, D.C. The selectee will be required to physically report to the OJP office building at least four (4) days per bi-weekly pay period and may incorporate leave and official travel plans into this reporting requirement.

The office director or supervisor may request the selectee's presence in the office more frequently, as determined by the needs of the office.

The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
