Are you an Engineer Specialist who is looking to play a key role in day-to-day process safety? Do you value and implement safety and reliability in your work?

If so, this opportunity is for you! Enbridge is looking for a Process Safety & Asset Management of Change Engineer who will be responsible for leading compliance efforts with Process Safety Management (PSM) policies and procedures for the assigned operating region, taking charge of implementation and coordination.

Here’s what you will do :

Process Hazard Analysis

  • Facilitate or oversee the execution of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for assigned operating region, as required for baseline PHAs, projects and MOCs (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Qualitatively / Quantitatively analyze and evaluate a wide range of PHA scenarios affecting financial, safety, operational reliability, environmental and reputational receptors using the 7x7 Operational Risk Matrix (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and decision-makers to make recommendations for additional safeguards based on PHA results (Responsibility to support and participate).
  • Collaborate with Risk Engineers in Risk Management department to quantitatively assess potential risk reduction to support risk treatment decisions as required (Responsibility to support and participate).

Process Safety Information & Audits

  • Conduct periodic Process Safety Information (PSI) audits to ensure documents and drawings are being maintained per the GTM PSI Standard (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Conduct periodic internal PSM audits for PSM regulated facilities, as well as other GTM facilities, in accordance with GTM PSI standard regulated facilities to ensure adherence to PSM policies and procedures (3-year comprehensive audit and annual file audit) (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Coordinate efforts during external PSM audits, taking role of PSM subject matter expert to support assigned operating areas and GTM IMS elements or programs during audit (Responsibility to support and participate).
  • Support assigned operating areas in addressing deficiencies found during PSI and PSM audits (Responsibility to support and participate).

Asset-Management of Change

  • Ensure asset related changes are effectively managed by facilitating the Asset Management of Change (AMOC) process for the assigned operating region (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Support the assigned operating area in planning and completing changes through the Asset-Management of Change process (Responsibility to support and participate).
  • Participate as requested in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews to verify all requirements in the MOC have been completed (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Support the workforce in use of the AMOC application (Maximo), with a strong focus on user support and satisfaction (Responsibility to support and participate).

Process Safety Event Investigation

  • Lead incident investigations or serve Process Safety Subject Matter Expert for significant process safety incidents in assigned operating area (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Work cooperatively with area operations to collect evidence, interview personnel, and apply root cause analysis methodologies such as SCAT, 5 Whys, Fault Trees, etc.

  • Write reports and make corrective action recommendations to decision-makers based on findings, including development of High Value Learning Events (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Present lessons learned to GTM and Corporate stakeholders (Responsibility to support and participate).

Leadership

  • Coach, mentor and motivate colleagues in PSM team. Assign, check and approve work of others in the PSM team based on area of specialization (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Develop recommendations that form the basis for making pivotal process safety related decisions, leveraging specialized insight (Responsibility to conduct).
  • Communicate, coach, mentor, and align stakeholders , fostering a unified approach to achieving organizational objectives (Responsibility to support and participate).
  • Deliver highly technical information in a manner understandable and actionable for various stakeholders Responsibility to support and participate).

Who you are : Required

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10+ years of directly relevant energy industry work experience.
  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis techniques, particularly HAZOP, FMEA and What-If studies.
  • In-depth experience with root cause failure analysis techniques, with particular proficiency in BSCAT.
  • Extensive understanding of process equipment and engineering, supplemented by hands-on experience in pipeline and plant operations.
  • Experience using specialized software, including PHA Pro and BowTie XP, to enhance PHAs and decision-making.
  • Experience with Quantitative and Semi-Quantitative Risk Assessments, with particular emphasis on LOPA and FTA / ETA.
  • Knowledge of physical effects including gas dispersion, vapor cloud explosions, flash fires, jet fires, BLEVEs.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation such as Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Standard Operating Procedures, Shutdown Keys, and control narrative etc.
  • Ability to work within a diverse makeup of facility operations and maintenance personnel, engineers, managers and EH&S professionals.
  • Ability to work with, lead and / or participate large and small teams of people.
  • Ability to work in an independent environment under the scrutiny and pressure of regulatory agencies.
  • Knowledge of process equipment and process engineering.
  • Knowledge of OSHA 1910.119, CSA Z767, CSA Z260, ISO 31000, API 1173 and related codes and standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including confident, supportive, collaborative, respectful.

Preferred

  • Chemical, Mechanical, Petroleum Engineering preferred.
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Engineering preferred.
  • Significant experience in pipeline and / or plant operations.
  • Proficiency in utilizing specialized software for process safety evaluations such as PHAST / SAFETI.
  • In-depth knowledge of international process safety standards and regulations.
  • Track record of driving continuous improvement in process safety practices.

Working Conditions :

  • Approximately 70% Office Environment and 30 % in a Field office or facilities outside operations in all types of weather.
  • Available 24 hours per day to respond on site to emergency situations and must be able to remain calm and focused during emergency situations.
  • May be exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Perform tasks at elevated locations, which may include working at heights, while prioritizing safety and stability.
  • Work near toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to hot, cold, wet, or humid conditions (non-weather); fumes or airborne particles;

risk of electrical shock and vibration.

  • The noise level in the work environment may be above 90 dBA.
  • Operates under demanding time constraints to meet specific regulatory deadlines set by facility operating authorizations (working under pressure and facing tight deadlines).
  • Availability may be expected for emergency situations during non-routine work hours.

Physical Requirements include but are not limited to :

Grasping, kneeling, light - moderate lifting (objects up to 20 pounds), reaching above shoulder, repetitive motion, typing, sitting, standing, visual requirement (able to see screens, detect color coding, read fine print), hearing requirement and the ability to sit at a computer for long periods of time.
