Job Description / Summary

The Construction Services Manager is responsible for the fiscal and operational performance of the field and laboratory service teams and fosters relationships with key clients to secure projects and meet budgeted financial goals.

Hires and leads field and laboratory staff aligned with our culture, Core Values, brand, and Quality Management System (QMS).

Creates a teamwork culture that unifies the engineering, laboratory, testing, and testing departments. Develops and maintains a good working relationship with co-workers, clients, and contractors.

Job Requirements / Qualifications

  • 5-10 years of experience in construction material testing and inspection.
  • Experienced in hiring, retaining, developing, mentoring, recognizing, and leading materials inspection and testing and field professionals.
  • Proficiency using personal computer and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Office , etc.).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Maintains active memberships in at least one professional organization (e.g., ACEC, AGC, ACI, ICC, AWS).
  • Adheres to STRATA’s drug and alcohol policy.
  • Travel as necessary to support project work.

Competencies

  • Develops long-term client relationships to facilitate a diverse client base, revenue stream, and project pipeline to maintain departmental and office utilization and profitability goals.
  • Engages in business development activities by developing and growing a portfolio of projects for the Field Inspection, Testing and Laboratory Departments.
  • Possesses technical capabilities in material testing and inspection.
  • Leads, directs, and enables staff to accomplish project-related goals in a customer-focused manner consistent with STRATA’s Core Values of Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Professional, Accountability, and Respect and in accordance with company policies, protocols, and procedures.
  • Communicates professionally, accurately and timely, both written and verbally, with clients, co-workers, and other team members.
  • Ensures the accuracy, professionalism, and timeliness of deliverables produced by the team.
  • Ensures communications between team members are aligned with STRATA's Core Values, provide training opportunities, and sets an example for others.
  • Maintains an efficient workflow between laboratory, field, engineering, and administrative teams to fulfill client and project schedules and budgets.
  • Reviews and approves respective employee’s timesheets and expense sheets weekly; is accountable for their efficiency.
  • Assures equipment that is generating revenue in the Field and Laboratory Departments is well maintained, calibrated, in good working order, professional, and available to the team (including the fleet, field equipment storage areas, field and lab testing equipment and mobile project trailers).
  • Performs material testing and inspection calculations in accordance with the test procedures for asphalt, steel, concrete, masonry, fireproofing, soil, and other construction materials.
  • Evaluates daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly financial information and makes necessary changes to facilitate financial success to support and achieve profitability goals.
  • Prepares revenue and direct cost estimates during the annual budgeting process. Establishes the annual department budget.
  • Uses sound technical and business practices and procedures to help reduce STRATA’s and client’s risk.

Education and Experience

Certifications required at time of employment and expected to be maintained active in this position include :

  • American Concrete Institute / Concrete Field Testing Technician (Grade 1)
  • International Code Council / Structural Steel and Bolting
  • International Code Council / Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector
  • International Code Council / Structural Masonry Special Inspector
  • International Code Council / Pre-Stressed / Post-Tensioned Concrete

Additional Certifications to be achieved within twelve months of employment and expected to be maintained active thereafter :

  • American Concrete Institute / Concrete Strength Testing Technician
  • International Code Council / Spray Applied Fire Proofing
  • Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction / Aggregate
  • Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction / Embankment and Base
  • Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction / Asphalt
  • Western Alliance for Quality Transportation Construction / In-place Density
  • Certified Nuclear Gauge Operator / Radiation Safety Certification
