Position Summary
The College Square Activity Director plans, creates and implements programs and encourages participation in activities which are age-appropriate and sensitive to the needs of College Square Retirement Community residents.
The overall goal of the Activity Director is to provide a warm, friendly and stimulating environment for each resident. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 : 00am to 5 : 30pm.
Weekends and holidays are required. Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Keep residents attitudes and excitement level up. At all opportunities, the Activity Director should be entertaining somewhat even if it is a one-on-one conversation.
- Keep everyone informed and updated about the days or upcoming events.
- Work in the dining room, serving or handling refills. Filling in where kitchen needs.
- Help the front desk with residents, answer and redirect phone calls, take messages.
- Drive the bus or the car to get residents where they need to be, if the bus driver is finished with his shift or usual transportation is over.
- After setting up for events, follow through with whatever is planned; this usually involves introducing the guest speaker or leading the event such as Men’s Club.
- Schedule and upkeep activity areas.
- Produce, update, and distribute weekly calendars to all residents.
- Set up and prepare for weekly bingo including buying prizes for the attending crowd.
- Prepare the community for the Activity Director’s days off. Such as including updated calendar on the bulletin boards and any communication that need to be given to the residents.

- Act as the working Manager on Duty as scheduled.
- Newsletter production. Fill 8 pages with relevant (fun, fresh, and positive) material to our residents. Including pictures and health articles.
- Develop the calendar and map out activities a month in advance.
- Call and schedule any guest speakers necessary for any upcoming events. Rearrange the calendar’s guests based on their availability to speak.
- Call ahead to plan outings or make reservations to ensure a sizeable room for our crowd.
- Following the Activity Director’s budget.
- Driving the bus and keeping the residents comfortable and safe on trips away from College Square.
- Setting up larger scale events, such as parties, with Marketing and other departments.
- Keeping the activity sign-up sheets in the 2nd Floor Activity Room.
- Enhancing the community with new, exciting, and fun things as often as possible such as a croquet set and a pool table.
- Administrative work dealing with prospects, following leads, and doing tours of the community.
- Develop events targeted to every resident even if it only touches / appeals to / or is enjoyed by one resident.
- Develop programs with the University that can benefit the residents. For example, Physical Therapy Exercise Program.
- Keeps the bulletin board looking nice and active with resident pictures. Also, procuring each resident a University of Central Arkansas ID when needed.

- Demonstrate effective follow-up. Required Education and / or Experience The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with a major in sociology, public administration, or related field;
plus two years of experience in program administration or related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Preferred Education and / or Experience Must have, or obtain, CPR and First Aid certifications. Class C Commercial Driver’s License required.
Must have strong customer service skill, must be multi-task oriented.
