GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Sr. Project Manager with 10+ years of experience in Transportation and Roadway Design Management to join our talented and energetic team to work out of our Ohio Transportation Business Unit.
The successful candidate will enjoy working in a challenging, fast-paced, varied, and team-oriented environment that will use their related experience to develop professionally and grow in today's global environment.
Remote and / or Hybrid work options (home or office) are also a viable option, and the successful candidate will be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
An ideal candidate has design experience and client relationships with ODOT and / or counties and municipalities in Ohio.
Job Duties :
- Technical execution and oversight of engineering projects, participation in project pursuits, management of technical projects, and mentorship and development of junior staff.
- Planning and managing projects with a wide range of value, with a single or multi-discipline focus. Independently perform and guide others on the completion of transportation projects within the Ohio region.
- Delivering scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects managed.
- Demonstrating mastery of project management concepts and using advanced techniques to effectively manage projects and portfolios by increasing productivity, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Assembling and leading the project team to execute the scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects managed.
- Working with Accounting staff to monitor and control project costs and billings to meet budgeted profit and to develop recovery plans as needed.
- Serving as a seller / doer leading significant business development pursuits as company representative to the client, in the community, and with contractors.
- Utilizes roadway design CADD software
- May provide leadership, coaching, and / or mentoring to a subordinate group.
General Characteristics
- As a GAI PROJECT MANAGER 1, this position is responsible for leading the successful delivery of scope, schedule, budget, and quality for projects. Competency
- Obtained foundation project management skills and applies basic skills to effectively manage projects. May serve as PM Coach to Task Managers.
Minimum Years of Experience
- Minimum of 10 years of total engineering or technical experience, with at least 2 of those years serving as a Task or Project Manager leading and directing projects or tasks, preferably with an engineering consulting organization or similar professional services firm.
- Demonstrated track record of external customer engagements and building and maintaining successful client relationships.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering or applicable technical discipline as required.
- Advanced technical degree preferred.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management skills, with a willingness to learn GAI-specific project management procedures and requirements
Certification / Licensure
Relevant professional licensure or certification in applicable technical discipline as required (PE, PLS, PG, RLA, etc.).
Technical Responsibilities
- Mathematical Skills
- Required mathematical skills are commensurate with the technical or engineering discipline practiced (e.g., engineering calculations, design, etc.)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental project management financial concepts, including developing pricing, cost budget monitoring, calculating profit, etc. Computer Skills
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of software as needed to successfully perform the duties described here, including MS Office Suite applications and software, CAD programs, document management systems, database software, HR Systems, internet software, and reporting tools related to databases.
- Experience with Deltek for Professional Services as a Project Management / Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Platform, including Client Relationship Management applications is preferred. Travel Requirements
- Must be able to travel to GAI and client office locations as needed. Travel requirement is estimated at up to 25%.
Project and Task Management
- Project Management Responsibilities :
- Approximately 50% of job duties are dedicated to project management and 45% to technical delivery.
- Delivers scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profitability of all projects managed.
- Plans and manages small to medium-value projects, with a single or dual discipline focus and a low to medium risk profile.
- Manages a small number of projects (typically 3 to 5) with up to $500k per year of total billings and a maximum individual project size of $150k.
- Under the direction of a PM Coach, works with Project Controls staff to analyze project performance data on an ongoing basis and develop recovery plans as needed.
Business Development Responsibilities :
- Up to 15% of job duties may be dedicated to Business Development.
- May serve as client contact for projects managed with support from PM Coach.
- Develops and maintains successful client relationships on existing projects.
- Works closely with their PM Coach and / or more experienced PMs to coordinate and develop the proposed scope, schedule, and fee for the entire project.
- Supports senior management in contract negotiations with clients.
Management Responsibility
- Supervisory Responsibilities :
- Assembles and leads the project team and the scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and profit for the entire project.
- A PM Coach will be assigned to provide close supervision and guidance through the life of their projects. Direction Received :
- Works under the supervision of the PM Coach and typically reports to a senior management.
Communication Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate with and garner support from key stakeholders and staff.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical reports and procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports and other business correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
