Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory / Technical Assistant in the Krekelberg Lab, Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience (CMBN).
The successful candidate will support daily operations of the research laboratory, under the guidance and direction of the Laboratory Researcher II.
This position is responsible for, but not limited to, the following :
- Assisting in experiment preparation, setup, and execution.
- Recording and updating records and data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
- Assisting in maintaining laboratory safety and cleanliness, in accordance with all established procedures.
This position is dependent on adequate external funding. Position Status Hours Per Week 19.5 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.
3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific / technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and / or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Certifications / Licenses Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a cognitive neuroscience setting, and specific experience working with eye tracking, electroencephalography, imaging, and / or transcranial current stimulation is preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in a scientific or technical discipline or an equivalent combination of education and certifications and / or relevant experience.
- Experience working in a research laboratory working with human subjects.
- Organized, responsible, detail oriented, and able to work individually and as a team.
- Attend all relevant laboratory safety or other training.
Equipment Utilized
- Uses specialized equipment for cognitive neuroscience research, email, web browsers, and basic office computing software (such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat).
- Knows or will learn any and all equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Fast-paced laboratory environment. Able to comfortably lift and move 30 pounds.
- Position involves prolonged standing, walking and sitting, as well as use of laboratory equipment.
- Must demonstrate manual dexterity.
- Some stooping, reaching, climbing, and bending required.
