Rutgers University-Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Laboratory / Technical Assistant.
Reporting to Research Associate, this Laboratory / Technical Assistant will monitor and provide care for animals under experimental conditions and provide general laboratory support.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following :
- Monitoring and providing care for animal under experimental conditions.
- Performing histological processing.
- Providing general laboratory maintenance and support, for example preparing laboratory solutions, and ordering surgical supplies.
This position is contingent on the continuation of external funding. Position Status Hours Per Week 19.5 Daily Work Shift Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.
3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific / technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and / or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.
Certifications / Licenses Preferred Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
A minimum of one year of laboratory experience.
Equipment Utilized
Position regularly used laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, vibratome, scales, stirrers, pH meters, and knows or will learn all the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Laboratory environment.
- Exposure to common hazards from laboratory chemicals. Use of personal protective equipment is mandatory.
- Training in laboratory and biohazard safety is mandatory.
- Participation in occupational health monitoring is mandatory.
- Must be able to transport animal cages to and from the animal care facility to the laboratory.
