Job Description :
Several positions available to include CNC programmer, machinist, toolmaker, machinist helpers and assembly line workers.
Programmer should have solid knowledge of MasterCAM (this is required) for CNC machining of aluminum, titanium, stainless and P-20 steel compression or injection mold tooling and components with Aerospace tolerances.
Experience with managing GD&T level precision is a desired.
4-10 years of experience as a programmer and machinist or in a senior machinist role is desired for this position.
Organized and able to work with limited direction.
Ability to work a first or second shift (4pm to 1am) M-F and occasionally longer hours when required to meet tight delivery schedules.
Job task shall include :
Duties shall include machining of molds, jigs, and fixtures as needed.
Setting up CNC machining centers.
Programming in Mastercam
Operate and or assist in short run compression and injection mold sampling.
Assemble sampling units as needed.
Assist in preparing molds for sampling.
Assist in repairing molds as needed.
Work with others to resolve any design / machining related issues.
Support maintenance of machines as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
Functions as a key support member of a small fast-paced CNC Machine Shop.
Setup and operation of four large state-of the-art CNC machining centers.
Experience with HAAS and Mori Seiki / DMG machines is required.
Assemble tooling and install them in our hydraulic presses.
Ability to perform inspections to meet quality standards.
Understand and comply with all department safety policies and procedures.
Should also be able to apply knowledge of machining, mechanics, shop math, properties and characteristics of materials - metals, plastics, adhesives etc.
Working from a 3-D CAD model (.stp or .igs file) created in Pro / E / Creo, you will eventually utilize MasterCAM to generate machine paths.
Education and Experience :
Safety is first and foremost for this position.
A qualified candidate will have completed a high school, vocational, work study program.
1-2 years’ experience in CNC production machine shop.
Ability to understand and edit CNC programs is a big plus.
Proficient in basic shop math including combinations of positive and negative numbers, decimals and fractions.
Correctly utilize basic measurement instruments such as micrometers, depth gages, bore gages, dial calipers, etc.
Has good metal cutting knowledge, cutting speeds and feeds and thread formation.
Knowledge in the use of inserts, taps, end mills, and work holding devices.
Knowledge with hand tools such as; files, deburring tools, pneumatic tools, etc.
Ability to interpret tool and part drawings including, but not limited to, geometrical tolerance and manually calculated dimensions.
Knows when, why and how to change worn tooling.
Set up of CNC machines including, but not limited to; making insert changes, tool offsets, boring chuck jaws, changing chucks, changing draw bars and tooling changes.
Knowledge of inspection procedures & use of inspection equipment.
Understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading
Setup to include; insert changes and offsets, installation of tooling, loading of program, initial dry runs, and first piece inspection.
Understands the machine zero point and axis orientation.
Able to touch off or qualify any tooling in the machine with no assistance.
Operates machine in a safe manner in all modes, manual or automatic.
Checks work during operation and makes cutting tool offset adjustments to ensure parts are machined to specifications.
Maintains an acceptable production rate based on pre-established standards, while producing products that meet all quality, drawing and routing requirements.
Applies sound judgment to plan, perform and make decisions as to the sequence of setups, operations or processes. The ideal candidate should understand how to do this within the limitations of recognized standard methods and procedures in order to meet production schedules.
Must efficiently perform secondary operations that could include setup and / or operation on simple machines, these can include;
drill presses, stamping presses, deburring machines, etc.
Must have the basic knowledge and experience necessary to operate within a machine shop safely
Good working knowledge of metals, plastics, adhesives, and fasteners.
Ability to work within the metric system.
Physical Requirements / Attention to Detail :
Light to Moderate Physical Requirements- frequently lifting or moving 5 to 25 pounds from three to six hours daily and less frequently lifting or moving 25 - 60 pounds.
A diverse array of operations requires the candidate to be alert and maintain focused concentration at all times.
Personal Skills :
Ability to operate a desktop PC well and communicate via e-mail.
Good verbal telephone skills a must.
Communication skills in general are key for this position.
Working Conditions :
Well-lit, air-conditioned machine shop with frequent exposure to metal and plastic chips, oils, etc.
This is a manufacturing environment but also an educational / teaching environment.
Frequently, clients / groups tour the shop, it is expected that the shop cleanliness is maintained at all times.
