Description
St. John Paul II Catholic High School is seeking a Head Golf Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is a stipend position and covers both the men's and women's golf teams (approximately ten or fewer total athletes).
Job Summary : Coach fulfills the formational mission of the school by running the golf program to prepare student athlete for competition and to assist in formation of the athletes.
The Head Coach reports to the Athletic Director and is responsible for the overall management and direction of the SJPII Golf Program.
The head coach must provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in golf. The candidate must contribute to the formation program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are competitive in their sport and become better formed young people.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to :
Program Advancement
- Create a cohesive golf program to involve middle school feeder schools in the area.
- Build relationships with student athletes to ensure adequate participation.
- Execute player evaluations and team placement at the beginning of each season.
- Facilitate off-season player development and research best practices for program development.
Community Engagement
- Routinely meet with student-athletes and parents to ensure a high level of program communication internally
- Assist the admissions office with events that can positively impact the enrollment of the school and promotion of the golf program
- Engage in community activities in the area and surrounding communities that may benefit the school's athletic programs and athlete development
- Be an advocate for student athletes and communicate needs, concerns or requests effectively between coaches and teachers
Faith Formation
- Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
- Supports and adheres to the Code of Conduct and policies and procedures of the school and Archdiocese
- Equip and empower assistant coaches to be spiritual guides for student athletes
- Attend and participate in a team mass and community service project
- Encourage student athletes to integrate their faith on the course and in their everyday lives.
Management Skills
- Lead the middle school coaches to best train and coach athletes that will feed into the high school
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship
- Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation
Financial
Oversee the team budget, under the direction of the Athletic Director, to properly plan for program expenses, both short and long term
Scheduling
- Ensure timely and accurate athletic website updates to include both practice and tournaments
- Assist coaches with competition schedules and practice schedules, and communicate those dates with parents, athletes, and opponents.
- Ensure timely communication with coaches, families, leagues, golf course managements, and opposing teams for all tournaments, changes and cancellations.
Administrative and Other Responsibilities
- Assist in purchasing of new uniforms and equipment
- Seek out and create opportunities for parent engagement and community building
- Maintain professional development by attending training and clinics
- Assist in execution of summer camps
- Assist in execution of athletic department fundraisers
- Perform other duties as assigned by administration
- Maintain a high level knowledge of all TAPPS and NCAA / NFHS rules
- Be able and willing to provide emergency care; maintain CPR-First-Aid-AED certifications; engage professional emergency personnel (911) if needed;
know where automated external defibrillators (AED’s) are located on campus
Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to foster, apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with St.
John Paul II Catholic High School student handbook
Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment including the weight room.
Requirements
Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree preferred
2. Previous coaching experience at the high school level or higher
3. Current CPR certification and First Aid training, or the ability to obtain such upon hiring
