The Atlanta Braves Trainee Program is designed for applicants who are interested in beginning a career in professional sports.
Each year, the program hires individuals from around the nation with diverse backgrounds who are ambitious, intelligent and creative candidates to work in a department from January to November.
This opportunity provides valuable experience in the day-to-day operations of a professional sports franchise, and it not only gives the opportunity to work in a Front Office environment, but also to build a network with those in the sports industry who can provide guidance, advice, and possible connections for job opportunities upon completion of the program.
Trainees are expected to work 37.5 hours per week and may have additional game day responsibilities, depending on department and assignments.
The individuals who participate in this program are non-exempt, paid hourly, eligible for overtime, and are benefit-eligible after 60 days (medical, dental, vision).
POSITION OVERVIEW :
The Accounting and Finance Department supports all aspects of the Braves Front Office operations. We partner with department leaders to support the major league baseball team, game day operations, minor league affiliates, spring training operations in North Port, international baseball operations, The Battery, special events, sales, marketing, and administrative functions.

The Accounting Accounts Payable Trainee will primarily support the Assistant Controller, Baseball, by assisting in processing invoices and expense reports, vendor maintenance, month-end reporting and controls, and participating in accounting process improvement projects.
This position will have a unique opportunity to work with many departments within the baseball organization to understand their financial drivers and learn the operations of the department.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY :
Accounts Payable Day-to-Day Tasks
- Research and answer vendor, employee and department questions regarding status of accounts and payments
- Review vendor statements for accuracy and completeness
- Support vendor set-up through the Braves ERP system, Workday
- Accurately review, code and process vendor invoices, check requests, and expense reports in accordance with Braves policies and procedures
- Perform vendor maintenance such as vendor set-up and vendor changes within Workday
- Review and reconcile invoice discrepancies
Accounting Month-End Close and Process Improvements
- Support Retail accountant with inventory invoice and voucher matching
- Assist with month-end accounting accruals
- Assist with accounts payable related reconciliations
- Ad hoc requests, including process improvement projects
TRAINEE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS :
- College graduate, Bachelor's or Master's, with a GPA of at least 3.0 at graduation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and relate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and within all levels of the company
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Customer service oriented
- Excellent executive presence
- Must complete a background check
ADDITIONAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS :
- 4-year degree with concentration in accounting
- Sports industry experience a plus, not required
- Intermediate Excel skills
- Good communication and personal skills
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
- Ability to analyze and solve business problems
- Basic working knowledge of GAAP
- Strong analytical skills
- Workday Financials system knowledge a plus
