Massage Therapists Contract
Massage therapists use their hands to manipulate a client's muscles and soft tissues to help improve their health and well-being.
Their duties can include :
Assessing clients
Talking with clients about their medical history, symptoms, and goals, and evaluating them before and during the massage to identify tense areas.
Creating plans
Developing personal therapy plans for each client, and consulting with other professionals to create treatment plans.
Performing massages
Applying pressure to specific areas of the body to treat pain, increase relaxation, and reduce stress. They may also perform hot stone, deep muscle, or prenatal therapy.
Providing guidance
Helping clients improve their posture, relaxation, and range of motion, and providing advice on stretching, strengthening, and rehabilitative exercises.
Documenting
Keeping detailed records of clients' conditions and progress, and completing wellness chart documentation.
Promoting health
Informing clients about available treatments and promoting the benefits of massage.
Maintaining the workspace
Cleaning their workspace and sanitizing equipment.
Massage therapists may work in professional settings, travel to clients' homes or offices, or deliver on-site massages at corporate locations.
They may need to stand for long periods of time and push, pull, and lift up to 25 lbs. regularly. To prevent injury, they should maintain their physical fitness and build stamina.
They can also limit their risk of repetitive-motion problems and fatigue by using good techniques, spacing sessions properly, exercising, and getting regular massages themselves.
