Job Summary

Position Description The Harry W. Bass Jr. School of Arts, Humanities, and Technology at The University of Texas at Dallas invites applications for the full-time position of Assistant Professor of Instruction or Practice in Digital Art Foundations, within the Design and Creative Practice area.

We seek individuals with a record of accomplishment who will provide initiative and lead course offerings in foundational undergraduate studio art and design.

The ideal candidate will participate in teaching required undergraduate design, time-based media, and digital art foundation courses for the Art and Technology degree as well as cumulative courses such as Senior Seminar, where students pursue an advanced creative and / or research project.

Responsibilities for the position include providing supervision or guidance for Teaching Assistants, Teaching Associates, and Part-time Lecturers who support or teach design, time-based media, and digital art foundation courses.

The candidate should exhibit a global and interdisciplinary perspective in the history of both innovation and scholarly research and be willing to work across disciplines which include the intersections of creative practice, interdisciplinary collaborations, and design for innovation.

The ideal colleague would demonstrate through their portfolio and CV that they have skills in contemporary methods of creative practices and can develop curriculum and contribute to the foundations program to prepare first year students for success in progressing in studio courses and contemporary practice.

We seek a colleague who is particularly committed to teaching in the area of creative foundations and has shown a strong commitment to fostering curiosity and foundational skills necessary to sustain a creative education.

Applicants will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in the classroom, a record of leadership, and enthusiasm for shaping the future of an ambitious and growing program that combines theory and practice at a major research university.

This position will require teaching eight courses annually at the undergraduate level in addition to university service.

Administrative responsibilities for the supervision of multiple sections of design, time-based media, or digital art foundation courses will allow for one course release per academic year.

The appointment commences for the fall 2024 semester. Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience : Applicants for an Assistant Professor of Instruction position should have a master’s degree in art or a related field, or an MFA or PhD.

Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of relevant industry experience will be considered for appointment as Assistant Professor of Practice.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprised of individuals with a range of backgrounds, skills, and perspectives.

We are seeking candidates with an active exhibition record who can deliver high quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from a range of backgrounds and experiences.

Preferred Education and Experience : A PhD, MFA, or master’s degree in art, design, or related field with prior teaching experience is preferred.

Design and Creative Practice The Design and Creative Practice program inspires students to blend art, technology, design, engineering, science, and the humanities to create innovative solutions.

They develop their skills in UX / UI design, video production, sound design, and digital fabrication.The Harry W. Bass Jr.

  • Engage in service within the academic unit, the university, and the profession as appropriate based on teaching and research constraints;
  • Teach eight (8) classes each academic year.
