Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.Performs electrical work in installing, maintaining, altering and repairing wiring, power appliances, light machinery and electrical circuitsInstalls new electrical circuits by connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers or other componentsRepair or replace wiring, equipment or fixtures using hand tools or power toolsTest electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters or oscilloscopes to ensure compatibility and safety of systemsInstalls, maintains and repairs electric motors, generators and related complex electrical and mechanical equipmentInstalls electrical fixtures and appliances in newly constructed or remodeled buildingsProperly bends and installs all types of electrical conduitRepair motors and electrical systems on the university farmsInspect electrical systems, equipment or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codesLocates and corrects power failures, short circuits and other electrical faultsPerforms electrical work on lighting timers, and photoelectric controlsInstalls, repairs, and or replaces panel boards & overcurrent devicesMake emergency repairs to elevators, generators and other electrical apparatus, appliances and equipment.

Must be available for emergency call-in per university call-in procedures)Replaces florescent and HID ballastsInstalls underground cablesReplaces incandescent, fluorescent, and HID lampsMarks underground utilities for contractors (operates locating equipment)Provide cost estimates for assigned workWilling and able to perform work from bucket trucks and other lift devices, as well as, climb light poles with appropriate safety equipment to perform electrical maintenance functionsMay act as team leader for area maintenance electricians / techniciansPromotes safe work practices within team and across campusOperates University vehiclesSecondary Duties and ResponsibilitiesMaintains excellent communication / customer service with Building Coordinators and all other DFM team membersCommunicates bi-laterally with other DFM team members to coordinate work activities between groupsAssists area team with other general maintenance functions as neededPerforms other duties as assigned by managementKnowledge and Skills Essential for SuccessMechanical & operational knowledge of all machines & tools related to the electrical fieldAbility to diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problemSkill to repair machines or systems using the needed toolsAbility to provide on-the-job training / coaching to other electricians and area technicians in your field of expertiseBasic computer skills to access / send emails and perform data entry into the maintenance work order systemAbility to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problemsAbility to read blueprintsAbility to monitor and assess performance of yourself to make improvements or take corrective actionAbility to talk to others and convey information effectivelyAbility to manage one's own time effectively and efficientlyMust be familiar with and have experience in the use of radio protocolAbility to work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities.

Ability to bend, crawl, reach, kneel, climb ladders & scaffolding, and able to navigate tight spaces, as well as working in hot, noisy mechanical roomsInstallation skills for installing equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specificationsSkill to perform routine maintenance on equipment and determine when and what kind of maintenance is neededMust be able to wear protective eye wear, gloves, and ear wear during work times for one's safety as the task dictatesJob Requirements : High School Diploma or GED equivalencyMust possess and maintain a current Kentucky Journeyman or Master Electricians License and be familiar with local electrical codesAt least three years of experience in electrical repair workMust possess and maintain a valid Kentucky driver's licenseAdditional Information : Hourly Range : $22.
