GENERAL FUNCTION :
Coordinates and supervises operations of aquatic or major area of aquatic programs. Maintains records, schedules staff, and ensures proper pool maintenance.
Teaches and lifeguards as necessary.
PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES / POSITION RESPONSIBILITY :
Provides day-to-day supervision of assigned aquatic programs including scheduling of lifeguards and instructors to ensure coverage meets Association guidelines and standards.
Teaches classes and lifeguards as necessary. Develops positive relationships with participants and provides motivational support and guidance.
Increases participant awareness of all healthy lifestyle factors. Assists with recruiting, hiring, training, and evaluating of staff.
Manages statistics and record keeping as assigned. Maintains aquatic program areas and equipment with a high attention to cleanliness and safety.
Assists with the ongoing maintenance and recording of the pool chemistry. Assists with program promotion. Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures.
Completes incident and accident reports as necessary. Attends and conducts staff meetings and training as required. Provides ongoing in-service training and safety checks for aquatic staff.
Encourages member and parent involvement and identifies potential volunteers. Conveys basic information on aquatics. Accurately maintains related records.
Requirements
Lifeguard supervisors must be 18 years of age or older with current First-aid / CPR certification, Lifeguard Certification, and Professional Rescuer Certification.
YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor or equivalent is required at first available training.
Minimum two experience teaching and / or organizing aquatic programs.
Lifeguard supervisors must have the ability to make good decisions and exercise mature judgement. He / She must hve the ability to lead and motivate others, demonstrate knowledge of aquatics, and be able to communicate effectively with members, staff and volunteers.
Two years of college education in a related field preferred.
