Position Summary
The Corporate Counsel at Life Time will support the day-to-day operations of the organization, manage employment litigation and disputes involving the Company, and assist with Company-wide projects and initiatives.
This individual will provide direct support on all employment-law-related items within their assigned region, and will play an integral role in supporting the Company’s operations and success by providing sound legal advice, exercising problem solving skills, and building relationships with key clients and business leaders at Life Time.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day legal advice on a wide range of issues including, without limitation, employment investigations, discipline and discharge, performance management, wage and hour, leaves and accommodations, recruiting and onboarding, job descriptions and position-related documentation, and training practices and materials.
- Assist the operations teams with onboarding practices, including, without limitation, by analyzing obligations job applicants may owe to prior employers.
- Manage employment litigation and disputes with, or without, the assistance of outside counsel.
- Provide direction to clients regarding internal audits and process improvements.
- Lead and / or provide legal guidance to support compliance initiatives across the Company.
- Draft and provide guidance regarding the implementation of new policies, practices, and procedures.
- Support new club opening efforts by analyzing location-specific laws and implementing necessary controls and practices in advance of site openings.
- Routinely monitor and review legal updates and new federal, state, and local laws, and help drive necessary changes.
- Draft and conduct internal legal trainings.
- Conduct legal research and present to clients.
Minimum Qualifications
Education :
- 4-Year Undergraduate Degree
- J.D. from an Accredited Law School
Experience :
5-7 years’ experience providing employment-related legal advice / guidance and managing / litigating employment-related disputes in either a law firm or in-house environment preferred.
Licenses / Certifications / Registration :
Valid license to practice law in at least one state in the United States.
