OBJECTIVES :
To perform a variety of duties associated with providing administrative assistance and support to the Parks and Recreation Department relating to recreation coordinating and programming management and community interaction and provides oversight and direction of recreational facilities, programming, camps, and special events.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS :
- REPORTS TO : Parks and Recreation Director
- DIRECTS : Seasonal Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Managers, Lifeguards, and potentially seasonal or part-time employees or contractors involved in special events and recreation programs
- OTHER : Involvement and contact with state and national organizations, community civic groups, other city departments, and the general public
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES :
A Recreation Coordinator is a supervisory position. Duties of the Recreation Coordinator include but are not limited to the following :
- Coordinates and works with the various adult and youth athletic leagues and in a professional manner, including facility usage agreements;
- Maintains control of equipment and supplies : maintains records and prepares reports and budgets needed for the successful operation of assigned areas;
- Works with supervisor as liaison to volunteer agencies, public schools, universities, organizations and agencies in establishing and implementing recreational and specialty programs;
- Maintain active membership and participation with related professional organizations and associations;
- Develops and leads programs and special events organized by the department;
- Promotes and maintains good public relations and customer service;
- Develops and promotes community health and wellness initiatives;
- Develops, organizes, plans, promotes, implements, and evaluates recreational programs and special events;
- Supervises assigned recreational programs and special events, which may include evening and weekend hours;
- Investigates misconduct of participating athletic leagues / activities or members, and takes appropriate action;
- Responsible for processing payments for contractor employees during departmental sponsored leagues and activities;
- Coordinates programming with schools and organizations to maximize inter-local agreements and contracts;
- Recruit and coordinate with recreation contractors;
- Assists with front office operations and facility reservations as needed;
- Must maintain a flexible work schedule to include weekdays, evenings, and weekends; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions.
The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and / or humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. May be required to lift or carry fifty (50) pounds occasionally and up to twenty (20) pounds frequently to move, lift, or push objects.
Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach and handle objects. Must be able to stand, walk, and sit up to one (1) hour daily.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately noisy when in the field.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND TRAINING :
- Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation;
- Knowledge of the current trends and developments of parks and recreation;
- Knowledge of special event, athletic league and recreation programming.
- Knowledge of the rules of variety of sports.
- Knowledge of appropriate technology in order to best serve the public and manage programs.
- Knowledge of leadership and the principles of supervision;
- Skilled in the use of common computer programs and office machines, including Microsoft Office Professional, Publisher, and athletic and program scheduling software.
- Ability to organize schedules, programs, and position workload.
- Ability to identify and set goals and lead people to achievement.
- Ability to read and understand technical reports and budget documents;
- Ability to create budget reports for special events, programs, and leagues;
- Ability to participate in regional, state, and national organizations to stay versed in the latest trends in the parks and recreation field;
- Ability to communicate and establish rapport, understanding and confidence with participants and the general public;
- Ability to maintain a consistently positive attitude and persevere in challenging and dynamic situations.

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED :
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and / or equivalent work experience.
- Two years (2) progressively responsible experience in the recreational field.
- One year (1) supervisory experience preferred.
- A valid Texas driver's license and driving record must meet or surpass guidelines as set forth by the City of Marble Falls.
- Must have or obtain CPR and First Aid Certification within six months of employment.
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification preferred but must obtain within 15 months of employment.
