The Associate Director of Presidential and University Events participates as an active member of the Strategic Excellence team, and is responsible for the development and implementation of experiences designed to advance relationships and elevate the CSU Brand.
This includes Commencement, Convocation, and other university-wide events, ceremonies and activities as assigned. The Associate Director provides operational structure and is responsible for the execution of specialized events including the development, production and evaluation of programs within the portfolio of the role.
Event management includes distribution of key communication to internal and external audiences and preparing Presidential and University-level briefings for various high-level events and ceremonies.
This position reports to the Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives. Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in communications, marketing, hospitality management, public relations or a related field by employment start date.
- Minimum of five years of experience in professional event management.
- Willingness to work non-standard hours, including many nights and weekends.
- Willingness to travel in / out of state as needed.

- Demonstrated ability in event strategy development, execution and evaluation
- Experience working with a CRM database such as, Blackbaud, or Salesforce
- Experience drafting written and electronic communications to various high-level constituencies

Essential Duties Job Duty Category Event Management, University Impact Duty / Responsibility
- Manage strategic events for CSU, with an emphasis on those events that represent the Office of the President, Office of the CSU System Chancellor and University-wide ceremonies.
- Lead internal and external partners to evaluate, determine and implement event details including purpose, scope, format and timing of events.
- Direct all event logistics, design and decor; negotiating contract terms with vendors; processing contracts and agreements in accordance with University and State regulations;
ensuring strict adherence to the standards of CSU Events; and conducting thorough evaluations of every event through data analysis.
Work in conjunction with the Managing Director of Strategic Initiatives to represent the objectives of the Office of the President, identify an annual engagement strategy to advance CSUs relationships with targeted constituencies, its messages and its brand.
Collaborate with Presidents Office staff and other senior leaders as appropriate to identify opportunities and execute plans.
Examine events, programming, and communications with a lens of diversity and inclusion for the audience, ensuring that the event welcomes guests from all backgrounds and is representative of various identities.

- Work with Event Manager and appropriate finance staff to closely monitor and control expenditures from the appropriate funds, ensuring adherence to University procurement guidelines and fiduciary responsibility to State and donor funded programs.
