Zolman’s Best One Tire & Service Seeking a full-time Commercial Tire Technician

Locally owned and operated, Zolman Tire, Inc. has serviced the automotive, light truck and commercial repair, tire, and wheel needs of customers throughout the Mishawaka, IN area since 1978.

Over the years we have expanded into eight retail locations in Mishawaka, IN, Granger, IN, South Bend, IN, Niles, MI, Portage, MI, and Kalamazoo, MI and four commercial fleet locations in Mishawaka, IN, South Bend, IN, Galesburg, MI, and Benton Harbor, MI.

We are seeking qualified tire and lube technicians for our Portage, MI location who value safety and teamwork. Techs will be responsible for tire installation, and tire maintenance including repairs, mounting and rotations.

This position will also conduct exchange of system fluids, such as : oil, antifreeze, transmission, and power steering. Hours requirements are 8a-5p M-F, with willingness to work overtime as needed.

Essential Functions :

• Remove, install, rotate, balance, and perform flat repairs (per TIA guidelines)
• Reset TPMS when needed
• Inspect tread depth, air pressure, and carcass for defects, for every tire that comes through, and recommend corrective action
• Inspect vehicles using inspection forms and report potential repairs to supervisor
• Perform basic maintenance and repair, including oil changes, chassis lubrication, filter and fluid inspection and replacement, and other light mechanical items and repairs
• Raise and lower vehicles safely, with hydraulic or floor jacks
• Safely operate all shop machinery, including but not limited to : rim clamp machine, balancer, floor jacks or lifts, air powered tools, torque wrench and / or torque sticks, and parts washer
• Read work orders thoroughly and perform all listed tasks
• Work closely with management and service advisors to educate customers on diagnoses and provide excellent service
• Perform general housekeeping duties
• Help to load / unload delivery trucks
• Each morning, set up tire racks, signs and other displays; store them neatly at the end of the day
• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands / Work Environment :

• Lifting : Frequent lifting over 50 pounds from ground to chest high.
• Squatting, bending, and twisting : occasional
• Standing for extended periods of time
• Read ticket and perform work listed; write confirmation and recommendation
• Environment : Work in environment that is not climate controlled. Temperatures range from extremely hot to extremely cold, depending on the season
• Vision (Near, distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception)
• Sense of sound (Ringing telephones, alarms, horns and motorized equipment)
• PPE : Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Safety Glasses, gloves, footwear)

Skills & Abilities : Education :

Education :

High school graduate or general education degree (GED)

Experience :

1-2 years of tire repair and lube experience

Certifications / Licenses :

Valid driver’s license; driving record must meet company’s insurance requirements

TIA 200 level certification (company can provide)

Ongoing training is required per company’s standards

Equipment :

Able to operate all diagnostics equipment
