Student status is required to be eligible for student positions. Must be enrolled in a minimum of six hours during a long semester.
Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Limited to working up to 19 hours per week. The following documents are requested : unofficial copies of official transcripts and licenses (if applicable), and name, phone number, and e-mail addresses of at least one (1) professional references.

Job Summary :
The Peer Mentor will be responsible for assisting the Title V Success Coaches conduct engaging mentoring sessions for program-eligible students.
Peer Mentors develop an enduring, trusting relationship with students and help them : 1) make a successful transition to college life and help them make progress toward fulfilling their academic and career goals, 2) develop effective study strategies and life skills to implement within the classroom and outside of the classroom, 3) become more involved on campus by referring them to appropriate department workshop and / or campus resources.
Peer Mentors are role models, who will have interactions and group meetings with mentees. The Peer Mentor will .1. Develop and maintain a peer relationship focused on helping students make a smooth transition, acclimate to campus, and establish a sense of belonging2.
Help facilitate and encourage mentee attendance at campus programs and events3. Participate in training, programs and activities4.
Attend group meetings5. Serve as a positive role model, both in the classroom an within the community at large6. Maintain regular contact with students7.
Educate students about various resources and student services available at Lamar State College Port Arthur8. Maintain confidentiality with any shared information9.
Participate in formal evaluations and assessments of the program10. Meet individually with the Title V Department to discuss student concerns, trends, and updates as needed11.
Complete necessary personnel paperwork12. Model appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to staff, students and others13.
Maintain regular working hours14. Participate in and complete all other tasks deemed necessary by the Director
Minimum Qualifications :
1. Student must have a minimum of 12 college credits or 4 courses on their academic transcript.2. Currently enrolled at Lamar State College Port Arthur3.
Minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 3.004. Strong verbal and written communication skills5. Be self-motivated with a positive attitude6.
Have a genuine desire to help students succeed
Preferred Qualifications :
Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Excellent customer service skills a plus.
Salary : $10.00 per hour
