Job Summary

The Senior Data Engineer Scientist Position will develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, ad targeting and other business outcomes.

Develop company A / B testing framework and test model quality. Data Engineer will support our product, sales, leadership, and marketing teams with insights gained from analyzing company data.

The ideal candidate is adept at using large data sets to find opportunities for product and process optimization and using models to test the effectiveness of different courses of action.

They must have strong experience using a variety of data mining / data analysis methods, using a variety of data tools, building, and implementing models, using / creating algorithms, and creating / running simulations.

They must have a proven ability to drive business results with their data-based insights. They must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.

The candidate will have a passion for discovering solutions hidden in large data sets and working with stakeholders to improve business outcomes

The Senior Data Engineer Scientist will report directly to the IEEE Director of Data and Analytics Product Engineering and works closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Product Management, Marketing, Market Research, Finance, Sales, Publication Technology, and Platform Design to build quality products and services using semantic analysis, natural language processing, classical machine learning, big data, data management, and enterprise solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • The resource collaborates in ongoing projects to deliver solutions used by our customers, volunteers, and other OUs.
  • Builds high-quality, low-latency, cost-effective data pipelines for ingesting IEEE and non-IEEE data.
  • Use a technical and data-influenced approach to find solutions to complex problems.
  • Help drive product development from conception to launch.
  • Work with the product owner, product team, and other stakeholders to figure out the workflow to create an MVP.
  • Try to get data collection parameters in place to ensure that there are large datasets to work with.
  • Help the product teams in setting up the product roadmap.
  • Takes an active role in data wrangling, assimilation, and standardization.
  • Designs, trains, tests, and launches machine learning models.
  • Develops and pre-train language models on IEEE corpus for tasks such as topic modeling, similarity search, sentiment analysis, text summarization, text simplification, and named entity recognition.
  • Keeps critical IP and know-how about IEEE content within the organization.
  • Establishes partners and or open-source technologies for analytics.
  • Works in conjunction with Pubs / Tech OU to create and manage analytic capabilities and products.
  • In partnerships with IT and Pubs, develop ML, statistical, and heuristic models for the next generation of IEEE products.
  • Supports current data and analytics projects and POCs with third-party providers.
  • Conducts and implements Data entity extraction from IEEE corpus to create new data products.
  • Provides consultative and analytics services to internal and external stakeholders regarding researcher markets and IEEE products.
  • Ensures analytics alignment and reliable engine output with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Passionately advocate for data & analytic capabilities and products and create a vision of success that can be vetted among colleagues to drive future success, articulates the vision, negotiates, persuades, and gains support for strategic initiatives that fit within the overall IEEE strategy.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience degree in data / analytics oriented field, or equivalent experience Req
  • Master's or other advanced degree Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or another quantitative field, and is familiar with the following software / tools : Pref
  • Ph.D. would be beneficial Pref

Work Experience

  • 4-7 years Working knowledge and experience with open source and other analytics tools and packages relevant across the pipeline, from ETL to modeling & analytics, to presentation. Pref Req
  • Experience in implementing large-scale software solutions is a plus. Req
  • A strong publication record is a plus. Pref
  • Demonstrated skill in project planning and collaborating with large groups.

Skills and Requirements

  • In-depth understanding for Statistical analysis and computing, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Processing large data sets as well as Data Visualization, Data Wrangling, Mathematics and Programming.
  • In-depth understanding of data structures and algorithms, statistics, natural language processing, recursive neural networks, and classical machine learning.
  • Python, Java, Spark, SPARQL / Cypher, SQL, Tableau, and RDF / LPG frameworks are essential.
  • Experience in using cloud-based technologies throughout machine learning product development.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts such as data migration and data integration in cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure.
  • Excellent debugging and code-reading skills.
  • Documentation and structured programming to support sustainable development.
  • Ability to describe challenges and solutions in both technical and business terms.
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent working relationships at all organizational levels.
