Job Summary
Under general supervision, applies acquired skills as a revenue cycle analyst to complete projects of moderate scope and complexity.
Charge Review Responsibilities and Duties
- Examines and evaluates research related charges for appropriate routing and consistent routing for billing with guidelines and documentation protocols prescribed in the CA (Coverage Analysis)
- Utilize knowledge of various systems - including but not limited to :
- EPIC, government websites, and / or non-government websites and any other information systems needed during detailed follow-up
- Interpret coverage analysis information and enter important details to provide an audit trail for further review
- Research missing charges by reviewing CA (Coverage Analysis), APEX and MediAssets
- Review billing grids to identify missing charges
- Adheres to the rules and regulations of the different types of payers such as Medicare, Medi-Cal, CCS, PPO, EPO, HMO, and commercial insurance
- Initiate Charge Corrections
- Utilize knowledge of various systems including, but not limited to :
- Microsoft Word, EXCEL, Outlook, APEX, Payor Web Portals, MedAssets, government and / or non-government websites, and any other information systems which would be required for insurance eligibility, benefit verification or other information needed during detailed follow-up
- Notify manager of possible procedural change for improving efficiency
- Other duties as assigned
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $69,900 - $104,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Office of Clinical Trial Activation provides support to investigators and study teams initiating and conducting clinical trials.
This includes maintaining a clinical trial management system (CTMS), conducting Medicare coverage analysis, developing budgets for clinical research studies, negotiating payment terms with industry and nonprofit sponsors, and providing clinical research infrastructure / services.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and one or two years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Detail oriented, with demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks, set schedules, and complete projects in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Proficiency in common database, spreadsheet and presentation software.
- Experience with MS Excel and Outlook
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate the effectiveness of workflows and systems
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to work effectively in a team environment with internal staff in a wide variety of business and clinical areas
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and concepts of the healthcare revenue
- cycle
- Knowledge of any or all of the following : billing, collections, charge capture,
- contractual adjustments, third-party reimbursements, and cash management
- Demonstrated communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey complex
- clinical finance information in a clear, concise manner. Ability to summarize and present
- reports and presentations
- Knowledge of CPT / ICD-9 or ICD-10
- Prior working knowledge of the EPIC (Apex) system, especially PB or HB Insurance Follow up Module(s)
- Certified Procedural Coder (CPC)
